' . — THE TIMES JHO. B. OHRISTIAH, \ Editors JHO. TRIPLETT. f and Pioprictors. THOMASVILLE, GA. Saturday, May 10, - - 1873. From the West. We have received a copy of the Thoraasvillc, Georgia, Tunes, of April 19lh. through tho kindness of Rev. J. A. McKee, late pastor of Iho Presby terian church at this place and Ver non. An article by the Editors invi ting immigration from the North, des criptive of their climate, soil, society, and advantages, is indorsed by Rev. McKee in a short article in the same •», the “winter there has paper. lie says, the “winter there lias been delightful, and that tho climate is probably unsurpassed in the United States, for its salutary influence ou those troubled with weak lungs.” He Airiher says, land is cheap and good, and that lie knows of no other place where a living can be obtained more easily by tilling the soil. The people cordially invite immigration from the North of real worth, and such will meet a conlhhvclcome and be treated kind ly.”—Plain Dealer,Imlinnn. The leaven works. Proui the fore going it will be seen that our town, attracting attention, from the western public. We want to make the Times the medium, #*f bringing our fast growing city, prominently before the public; to this end we arc sending each week, a large number of copies, to the West and North-west. Believ ing that a discriminating public, will accord to us that very liberal support, to which our efforts are entitled; we shall continue in the future, as wc have in the past, to bend all our ener gies to the building up of our town. It seems to us that everything is pro pitious. We have a liberal Board of Cotiiicilincn, comprehensive in their ideas, and who will leave nothin; done, to build up Thomasvillc; w.* l.avc the healthiest and most delight ful climate, in the United States; w have society second to none in ih South; we have superior educational advantages, good churches, and in fa; nil the elements of success; let us in prove them. To show our readers tl: force ol the foregoing extract, we n| pend a short paragaph taken from the same paper, and same dale. The des cription ot our warm sunny land, must read like a tairy tale, to snow bound and frost bitten people. The tide ol immigration is turning toward the sun lit, and fertile fields of the South. Let us reach out our hands and grasp it. “.lust think of the beautiful, mild climate they have away out desert of Nebraska. During the re cent cold spell they had a w day.-, ago iu the latitude of Lincoln, the capilol of that Slate, a number of per sons froze to death. It is said to hav been the coldest Weather of the son, and all this occurred in the mid die of April.” Meet ing of the Hoard of Trir toes of Fletcher Institute. Tiiomasvili.kGa., May 5lh,lh73. The Board of Trustees of Fletcher institute, recently appointed by the Quarterly Conference of the Tli villi; Station, M. K. Church, n cording to appointment at 10 o'cloe a. m. Present, Hon. A. I*. Wright, K. II. Hardaway, L. C. Bryan, Win. M Hammond. John N. McKinnon, I). S. Brandon, S. S. Adams, Thomas Mitclit-ll, Redden P. Smith, S. J. aels, Joseph P. Smith and C. P. //an sell. Absent, W. D. Mitchei!. On motion, the hoard organized by electing lion. K. II. llurdawny, Presi dent, and C. P. llanselh Seer» lary. The following resolution was o He red and unnuiiuosly adopted: Mill . Louisiana. The eye wetpies^nd tho heart sick ens, at the. recital of the accumulated atid accumulating troubles; that sit like a pall over the good people of the “Pelican” State.. Ground down! tram pled upon, robbed, and insulted by a hungry horde of vampires; that since the war have fattened upon the hard earnings of the people, and have glo ried m and exulted over their humilia tion and defeat; the the worm lias at last turned and slung the intruders. To day the sad sickening spectacle is looked upon; of a people straggling in the fatal meshes, and in the iron grasp, of the most profligate, and corrupt government, that disgraces Gods green earth. The man of destiny is being whirled along in palace coaches, (Dead head of course) lolling on silk velvet cushions, enjoying his fragrant Havanna; while the people of ft Sov ereign State, is being bound by the galling manacles of a set of thieves and robbers, that would be a disgrace Sing Sing itself. The people arc being oppressed; blood is flowing; whilst the dark angry clouds, of a war of races, throws an ominous and threatening gloom, that fair Southern landscape. And yet Grant with that stolid, dogged besotted indifference, that would put the intelligent brute creation to the blush; continues his airy jaunting, and drunken orgies, with his hellish coad jutors in this work of oppressing, and •hiving to desperation, a people whose principles and geneious impulses, arc far above the usurper and his per jured followers; as Heaven is above earth.. How great the calamity, that at this ritical juncture of affairs, there is not some-one iu authority, whoso states manship might grasp the situation, id bring order out of chaos. Mr. Stephens says, that “General Grant is apt to impress his mark upon the history of the times, in which he vc agree with Mr. Stephens. Ifc has made an impression, on the outhern mind and people, by his ut ter indifference to their cries, when oppressed and robbed by the paid tools il minions of the Administration, that will last until we forget that ht to he a free people. After a ficc discussion of the condi tion and prospects of the iiisiituiio participated in by all llu: members present, a committee of lour was ap pointed by the Chair to investigate the history of the institution from its orguuizat.on, how the menus with which the grounds were purchased and the house built were raised, what ves ted rights, if any, there are in the liamlsof private* individuals, f tent tnd nature u! the title under winch the property and frnuchi now held by the 7'homasvillc Station, also tho puddings, etc., with a view having the public informed on th matters, am) report to tho Board Monday, the liith iust. The local of the News (Albany) gives our energetic townsman, Mr. Levy a very complimentary notice in his issue ot the 25th ult. The “West Point News” insists that Barton of the “Frank .h News” never had that ham, which lie touchingly pado farewell to in his last issue, as Towser trotted off with it, and avers that Collards and “Pot-licker” has been, the standard nutriment of B .
