Pulaski House Savannah.—Wo had ihe pleasure of stepping at this far famed hotel last week, for the first time under tho present popular admin* istration. We hau heard a great deal of the handsome style in which Maj. Cameron and his popular associates were keeping it up, consequently, we were partially prepared to see it This is now in every particular a hotel which would do credit to any city in America, as elegantly furnished, as well couducied and we arc glad to sec well pntronized. Press Association.—This body met on the 14th at Amcricus. The meeting was cutircly harmonious, and business of importance to the fraterni ty disposed of, to the satisfaction of nil. Thu press of the State teems with long articles on the hospitality and l»eauty of Amcricus. We warn those Amcricus girls against some of these editors, they will he straggling hack there certain ; and, unless they hake rolls, milk the cow, rock the cra dle and do the clipping, they had bet ter let these fellows “lock up some other to The vkknoks Convention, Wrniori' the Governors.—This lsi-ty met in Atlanta on the 20th and adjourned after recommending three gn at inland routes from the West. Of'*ourso the land-locked route left out in the cold. Cause—dont cost enough money, and consequently no? enough to he made out of it. Gov. Sindh strangled one scheme in which South-west Georgia was vi tally interested, and now he has ably assisted in performing the same kind ness for us again; not this seclio alone this time but the whole Missis sippi valley. Truth is Stranueu than Tio\\—It sounds more like fiction than truth, to read of the truly wouderful escape of a portion of the crew of the ill-lulcd Polaris. Becoming separated from the ship after Captain Half death, nineteen persons, including two women and several children, drifted lilleeu hundred miles on an immensu floe of ice, which was originally llv miles across, hut was reduced to about twent) yards before they were taken olVby the British ship Tigress. They were alloat on this iceberg for half ” year, several consecutive months ol wlmh was continual night. A more desperate or inhospitable position, for a number of human beings to he plac ed in, can scarcely ho conceived of. Heath’s Doin -Within a short time the mysterious reaper lias thrust in Ins scythe and cut down some of the brilliant men of the age. John .Stuart Mill, the great thinker of Eng land ; .1 allies Brooks, of New York, who Mood, in his particular field, without a peer; s. r. Chase, the great liimntii r, who kept the gun-wales of -Lincoln's liuniiciul trail above the THE FAIR. Elsewhere we publish for tho last time, the names of the yarious com mittees and the premium list 'A word to the gentlemen, on the committees. Get your different sections interested in this matter* Remember' that there will be hundreds hero from other counties, and Thomas must not disap point public expectations. You can urcly induce your friends and neigh bors, to give one day this Spring, to social reunion and to comparing the first lruits of the soil. It is only by such a course that we can measure our progress, Thomas county occupies the most enviable attitude to-day, of any county in South-west Georgia, as regards her Agricultural resources and her health. Hundreds arc look ing towards us with a view to settling here. Let us show them what the rich soil of old Thomas can do on the 30th. There will probably be lively competition for many of the premiums, from other Counties; and trust there will be; we hope how- r that our planters and gardeners, will make it interesting for any who may carry off, our golden prcmitfbis. We would urge upon the planters and friends of the enterprise, the impor tance ot putting on exhibition, sam ples of all kind of Vegetables, whether auy premiums have been offered for them or uot. If all will bear this ii mind, there will be one of the finest displays of this kind at our Fair Grouuds on next Friday, ever witness ed in the State of Georgia. Our Fall exhibitions have heretofore eclipsed aud distanced all other simular Fairs in the Slate. Let us inaugurate this Spring a Horticultural Show, that will he hul the first of a scries of such, that shall rival in interest an magnitude, our Full exhibitions. A word to the ladies. Without your aid. prescucc aud flowers,, we will fail; however hard we may labor. Everything depends on you, from the preparation of the lunch ha.-ket to those inaguificcut displays of flowers und plants, around which hundreds will delight to linger, and whose beauty aud fragrance, language will he found inadequate to portray. You can do much, and we have every assurance that you will not disappoint us. As this will be strictly a basket Pic Xic, cvciy one being presumed to come prepared to satisfy the inner man; yet as there arc always a great many strangers present, on these oc casions, and many who will find it inqiossible to make such preparation; it will he well for the ladies of the town, as well as the Count}', to come pre pared as we doubt not that they will; to see that all are properly cared for Col. Haines has kindly assured us, that special train** will be run from Alhnnv, Camilla, Baiuhridge nml in termediate points; also from VaMosta, (juitiuau and Boston. This will give all an opportunity of spending a de lightful day at ou? Fairgrounds, view ing the products of our Soil, admiring the fair holies ofThomas, and listening to the soft strains of sweetest music. Remember no charges for entrance or «.«»•; iv.es. 33,o. j-ovd}' is invited. A Day with Oar Georgia Ex changes. Barron, of tho Franklin Hews, backs the fleak in his town against creation. They were poore specimens. * According to the “Seaport Appeal.’’ The improvements situated at the foot of Mansfield Street, in the old town of Brunswinck will be sold on the 1st Tuesday in June; ALSO the balance of the town. . Tho Bainbridge, Cutlibert & Colum bus Road, sold the last time to Mr. Tumlin for 82,500 01 two dollars and a half we dont reccollct which. Its all the same however. Hereafter parties indulging in the pugilistic art, with a view to bloody noses, and getting their names in the Cuthbert Appeal; must either come to time and tho scratch, on the square or else furnish a cart, in which Sawtell may ride to the bloody ground. This rule will be srliclly adhered to. Gnffiu boasts of a $10,000 fire. Dr. Seth Green proposes to hatch out a million of shad per day, in the Savannah river under an appropria tion of Congress, for stocking the Southern rivers with shad. It is time Uncle Sam was spending some of his pocket change, in this latitude. From present indications the mea sles has a firm grip on Sandcrsvillc, but will not last 10 go all around. The supply however at last accounts prom- sed to hold out a few days longer. Hie “Central City” of Albany warns husbands against allowing their wives, to use that paper for padding bustles Ac., if there is any due on it. One la- by alieady suffers seriously from this kind of dampness. The local of the Central who prepetrated the above, if he docs not change his sinful course, will he found wnuderiug pensively up and down the hanks of the Flint, viewing its inirky waters through a wilderness of court plaslea. We hope the police will protect him. Tlie local of Die North Georgia Citi zen thus exhorts the defunct baud of Dalton: Young men, arouse! Throw off the grufl iucuhus, aud releive our city of its present monotony. Tho weeks tlew by as we wandered up and down those smooth sandy beaches, with some gay and careless cotnpar- ion; or half reclining, dreamily watch- ed the surl with its white eiested caps, as they were driven ashore by the restless ocean. The mind lulled into rest and quiet by the murmuring waves, wandered dreamily bark to other days. Absent ones come troop ing along the avenues of* memory; making its silent chambers resound with the footsteps ol by gone frieuds. Tho second day we xx'crc un, bright and early. John in half an hour caught fifteen, anJ Ihe balance were equally successful. Our combined labor sufficed for our break fast, and tisli fry was the order of th< day. Neil’s so called coffee, or rather “Slumgullioa” added a great deal to supply our wants, and was highly np predated by our boys and guests." We hereby recommend him to ihe good ladies of Thomasville aud oil applica tion, no doubt he will gladly furnish them with a receipt of his celebrated stimulant. During our stay wc had the pleas ure of meeting one of DurCity Fathers, who had spent the Sabbath here, and with whom wc exchanged hats, to our sorrow, and to whom wc also offered our hospitality, knowing that his stay among us would be veiy short. While gently reclining under the shade of a beautiful Magnolia tree on Tuesday 11 A. M., wc were aroused by the report of a lifie, and the floun dering of an Alligator shot by our ex pert, John. All hands were to the rescue, and the “gator” was landed safely after a gallant struggle of half an hour, and proved to measure S 1-2 feet m leiigth. After close inspection, and extracting the musk of the amphi bious animal, wc voted the extreme end ami delicious part of ii to a fexv negroes who eagerly and thankfully accepted it. Rosie who labored faithfully was sick for a while, in consequence of be ing overcome by exertions combined with fear, hut our ever icady and effi cient Neil soon brought him back to ministering some of his slumgullion, mixed with a few drops of Starks best. What we did not perform iu the fishing line the first two days, we made un the last day of our most pleas ant and ever to be remembered expe dition. A fexv more notes probably worth mentioning: Louis’ rest at night xvas very much disturbed, owing to a rather free circulation of “gatcr” and snukc stories. Often he would rise, as if the Mrnlocs were after him, pistol in hand, to prevent his precious body from being consigned to a wa tery home of a “gater” or to some oth er unxvelcome abode of lliii interesting locality. Two leading Stars of our celebrated Comet Band added very much to our amusement, particularly on our evening boat rides, when the old saying: “Music hath charms to sooth the savage breast” was truly verified. Considering your valuable space I will not go into*fuller details, and probably it will be better for the bovs that I slioul not. In conclusion, to all those who would wish a few days of recreation, leave all cares bthiug them, and enjoy Iamonta'8 balmy air, xve would say “Go thou and do likewise.” Very Truly Yours. P. S. Since our retnru, xve could not help but notice the local paragraph of the last Enterprise, in reference to our Lake excursion aud can safely tell freind Chastain, that we have, thus far, uot shown any unfavorable symp toms from eating corn-bread with gravy.
