Georgia Agricultural Society
aad the Patroni of Ilmban-
V
Tile' meeting of the State Agricnl-
tural Association at Athens on Tues
day next, firom the fact that a very
large proportion of its members doubt
less belong slab to the Patrons of Hus
bandry, will be regarded with unusual
interest. „
We may expect to see foreshadowed
3n the discussions which will arise,
something of the future policy aud
;piau§of .the new order. Attached to
"its rjipks are many of the first iutel-
Ilfcts, and the purest men in Georgia.
‘jL licy have affiliated themselves togeth
er not for political preferment, or to
•overtftfn ancient landmarks, and en
graft upon the Constitution new and
t-iiauce dogmas, nor do they wish to
vlevatc their own branch ot‘ industry
upon the ruins of any other, or seek
peculiar franchises and rights lor them*
selves. Nothing of the kiud, we are
assured, is contemplated.
The Patrons of Husbandry simply
wish to assert the privileges, and de-
Juud the rights to which they are al
ready legally entitled, hut have been
unable to enjoy through lack of cou-
ccrt among themselves. They wish
to regulate freights by the building of
new hues of railroads, or banding to
gether lor the support of those which
will carry produce most reasonably
for them. They desire to be relieved
from the taxation incurred through
middle men by dealing direct with
manufacturers and producers. They
antagonize with monopolies, and con
tend for a tair share of influence and
representation in the halls of legisla
tion. They are resolved to strive to
tho utmost to reclaim the millions of
exhausted acres in the country, and
Inaugurate a more intelligent and suc
cessful system of agriculture. They
utterly oppose credit, and pay cash for
nil their purchases. Lastly, the grand
object of the order is to elevate the
agricultural masses, promote social
jellowship among themselves, and en
courage intelligence, morality and vir
tue iu the country.
All good men can sympathize with
these laudable objects, and so long os
the granges stick to such a programme
they will exert untold intluencc for
good.—Macon Telegraph.

Among the customers was a young

over the counter as au iuvitation for

order. Be bent closer to her and said,
“ What’s that ?” in a voice that siar-
