Ever Thai plainly apeak* of warm desire. *.7,1873. ’ w 'Newspaper Grievances.—It is the strangest thing in the world how little appreciation people have tor the efforts of publishers to collect news and print it; and stranger still that the columns of a newspaper aic looked upon as public property; for iustancc, notices, of every description -meeting of clubs, societies, church and funeral notices are handed in for publication, without the slightest idea of paying for setting ot type or for tho blank pa per upon which it is printed. They aro called upon to notice good and bad tilings, but when there is a propo sition made for. “business,” in the shape of an advertisement, you are told, perhaps for lack of other excuse, that he is selling more goods than he can supply—very seldom is hard times the cause of failure to get business. However, the demand for the news paper to show up privato grievances exists the year round, aud you afe re quested to write about this and that nuisance, or to commend personal friends—in fact the free work never ends, aud the paying jobs come in very slow*— Griffin 1Yews. Women Should Head Newspa pers.—It is a great mistake in female education to keep a young lady’s time and attention devoted only to the fash ion able literature of the day. If you would qualify her for convocation, you must give her something to talk about, give her education in the actu al world nffd its transpiring events.— Urge her to read the newspapers and become familiar with the present char acter and improvement of our age.— History is of some importance; but the past world is dead; wo havo nothin] to do with It Our thoughts and our concerns should be for the present world; to know what it is and improve its condition. Let her have an intel ligent opinion, aud be able to sustain conversation according to the mental, moral, and religious improvement of our times. A drunk man wrote on the wall of bis cell: “ Jug not that ye be not jugged.” An enraged man tears his hair, but an enraged woman tears her hus band’s. What requires more philosophy than taking things as they come ? Partin; with them as they go. A prosperous merchant has for his motto, “Early to bed, and early to rise, never get tight and udVertisc.” A voice come Irom Washington territory, saying, “Send us wives and a thousand male voices respond, “ Take ours 1” :M3Lsoellsm.eo\ig -A.c3.v-i P.
