Davis, which explain! itself Macon, Ga: Oct 29th 1873. Col. A. P. Wright—The Great Eastern will show two days m the Fair Grounds. E. T. Davis. It will show here two days and not go to Bambridge. Special From Macon. Yesterday, (Thursday) at 12 o'clock we received a dispatch from Captain Triplet! in Macon, stating that an im mense crowd was there and that the Fair would he contiuaed next week. We consulted Col. Wright and he says that it is too late for us to post pone our Fair, and it will commence as advertised, notwithstanding this, next week. The Fair-Last Call. Weil, the much-talked-of Fair will noon be here, and werecon it is unnec essary, but wo will just remind the people for the last time that much is expected of them. The President, Secretary and Directors have certain ly done their part and if the people do as well wc are sure we will have such a fair as never was before. A committee of our best men have gone to Macon to solicit exhibitors, etc., and an extra train from Macon here has been arranged for, to transport articles for exhibition, both ways free of cost; aud this will certainly induce many to move their goods direct from Macon here. This is a good move and we think will bo quite successful. Just let us do our part at home and we guarantee a brilliant success. Tournament Ball.—On Friday night, the 7th, the Tournament Bail will be given at the City //all. The Cornet Band have the affair in charge, and are making preparations equal to the occasion. The first item will he the Corona tion—the crowning of tho u Queen of Love and Beauty 1 ’ and three “Maids of Honor.” Following this will come an elaborate and choice programme for the dances. Refreshments will also be on hand. Thoso who desire to witness the Coronation exercises or are desirous of showing their appreciation of the Cornets, should attend. If the weath er is favorablo the occasion will be a pleasant one—perfect order and good music hi abundance. Another Cancer Cure.—Wc were shown the other day by Dr. J. D. Andrews, another cancer, in alco hol, about the size of a goose egg which he took from the breast of Mrs. Griuer, of this county, from which she had been suffering for a number of years and never found any thing to do it any good until she con sulted Dr. Andrews. lie lias several other case.8 just taken. aug 23 3 Sco Moera. .Schwarz & Brady’s new advertisement. For sale by James Watt, ocL25-tf. Thomasville Ga. To the Ladies.—Wc take this oc casion to call the attention of the la- •dics to the advertisement of Mrs. Thompson. She 1ms now the most select and beautiful stock of Millinery goods ever brought to this market, an evidence of which is that her store is daily crowded, and she is selling off very fast. Inj the drew making line, as she advertises, she docs the very’ best work, and in the latest fashions, and we are glad to see that the ladies are appreciating it, for she now has to employ a half dozen .ladies in dress making. We hope they may continue io do well and that the ladies may continue to appreciate her, as she de serves. (COMMUNICATED.) Moultrie, Ga., Oct. 13, 1873. Dear Brobtlinnagg;—I am glad to :e through tho “ Times” that I am not forgotten by you, myold friend, but you must not measure “ my corn by your half bushel,” unless it was scaled measure.” (which I am sorry to say is not the case.) 1 refer to the eating business at the Sunday-school lebralion. I own I admired the dinner both as to quality and quanti ty; but my“cxaustcd condition,” you arc pleased to term it; was not from over-eating, (for by-the-way 1 can chamber a great deal,) but from over-listening and trying so hard to catch the “points” in the anecdotes and jokes as told by tho speakers, and from over-laughing at the perpetrated by our mutual friend Col. B. If there ever was a manTeady at all times with something good to make somebody laugh, that man is Col. B. He has a never-ending fuud of jokes and wilicisins always ready for any and every occasion; whenever lie thinks it will do anybody any good to laugh, and we think that laughing is a wholesome exercise. The improvements and repairing upon the Court House has commenced. The indefatigable “Joe” is putting things through; the sound of the ham mer, saw aud plane arc making music while I write and soon the energetic John J., of the paint brush will be “glossing things over,” and then our “ Hall of Justice” will look considera bly belter than it “use to did." 1 We had some visitors in our little village on the 8th inst., from an ad joining county whom, if they do not learn to demean themselves better, wc would be £lad they would stay at home if they have any, (but wc aw fully fear they arc like a stray dog.) They cithci had no sense or had let liquor rob them of that noble attribute, and, something causes us to lean to the first conclusion. Soon after their ai • rival they produced pistols and mcnced to fire them off almost at ran dom shooting at posts, trees, etc., up on the public square. They stated they wcie looking for a location. If they continue in this course 1 think they will soon find one. One of the parties said he was iunning a grocery iu an adjoining town. Our opinion is though, some one else docs the idling and he “lotes” ther goceries. Wo would have been very much pleased to have accompanied you in vour tour ot inspection through die Printing Offices of Tlmmasville. We arc not at all surprised at the exact order aud nicety of everything about the Times’ office. The Times is a success and we knew by knowing this that all things weic fight at Head quarters. You speak of Capt. Trip lett’s “snug little uest,” and appears to wonder at it os he is a bachelor.— Now is it possible my dear Brob, that you thiuk ouly Benedicts get female help? but from what you hinted about the sanctum of our bachelor friend and what you saw I think 3 our [COMMUNICATED. J Messrs. Editors.—Friday morning Oct. 17th., being the day Of tho anno- ale ommencing of the “Florida Bap tist Association” waaJair, beautiful and pleasant These annual iqeetings are as the reunions oi members of the same family, where letters are read from each church, telling of their success or gloom. Friday morning, brought this great family of some thirty chuicbes togeth er at the village of Grooverville, Brooks county, Ga., a village howev er, only in number of inhabitants for the immense amount of hospitality issued, would have done credit to' a city. It has been onr pleasure often to meet with those family gatherings, but never before have we seen a more hospitable community, than at Groo- vcrvillc, which I believe takes its name from Uncle Jimmie Groover, who still graces the church with his pres ence though he has passed the four score years by six, and may his man tle of piety fall upon his many repre sentatives. To particularize would be injustice, aud we will merely say if all communities were Groovcrvilles we would not need any jails or prisons. The Association was organized by Rev. G. W. Hall, being called to pre side temporarily as moderator, and S. L. Scruggs as clerk, and after the enrollment of delegates, these brether- en were, (I believe,) unanimously elected as permanent officers, and wisdom was shown in this selection, fo» well “they performed their part” Alter appointment of the various com mittees who should he called upou the next day, to report upon the various subjects thereby giving work for the Association the next day. The hour arrived for adjournment, and we sep arated for the night,: and the Dele gates from your city were honored as Chairmen of three of the committees. Rev. C. S. Gaulden, on the committee of Missions. Redden Smith on Finance and J. W. Kendrick, on Sabbath Schools, and tbeir reports showed that the selections were good, and among the successes reported none was more so than the success in the Sunday school. But U10 report on Temper ance, Rev. Bosticli Chairman of Com mittee called fortli more discussion than all the others together, and Rev. J. M. Rushiu, of Boston, C. D. Camp bell of Quitman; bretheren, B. F. Wardlaw, of Madison, Fla., aud J. W. Kendrick of your city, each took ac tive parts in the discussion. Rev* C. D. Campbell, taking heavily to task, not only tiflers and sellers, but users ot the noxious weed, but we will have to say, “they that arc filthy shall be filthy still,’’ while Mr. Kendrick plac ed the remedy and cure of the wicked habit of taking into our stomachs this liquid hell, and distilled damnation,” in the hands of our mothers, wives, sisters and daughters, aud we say lie carried his point to our entire satisfac tion, aud why they will not put forth their herculean power aud strangle tl is hydra headed monster, is a mys tery to us, for they and their little ones arc the principal sufferers. Aud speaking of C. D. Campbell and J. M. Bushing, wo look upon them ns the rising Paul and Apcllos of ou community and nmy they live Ion; ami gather many “sheaves.” The former preached iu the Baptist church on Sabbath, to a large and attentive audience riveting their attention for one hour and ten minutes, but to us it was so short, and when fired up by his theme, such countenance one will ev er remember, and remember it but to love and wish to see again. The most important action taken ii the Association, was the withdrawal of the eight.cliurches north of the Florida line, for the purpose of forming a new association, and for that purpose there will be a convention held in Boston on the qua Sabbath prox, where we hope to meet one ot your number. Long will the Association at Groo verville be remembered and may they all at last receive their rewards, foi we “were strangers and they took u* in.” Stranger.
