We understand that in case the docket is not cleared this week, that the Judge will hold over two or three «kys next week. Death of Judge II. if. Tooke. The death of Judge Tooke which occurred on Thursday morning, was not an unlocked for event by his im mediate friends. He was suddenly stricken with paralysis on last Mon day at 2 o’clock, P. M., and remained apparently insensible up to the hour »f his death. His physicians pro nounced his ease hopeless from the first, notwithstanding, loved ones lin gered over him until the last Meeting breath was gone, and done everything hat could have been done to smooth Ins way to the tomb. Judge Tooke was in his 50th year, having been born :n 1818. Probably no man in Thomas county was betu-r known than the deceased, having been in public office for a period of ovci forty years successively. On the pas :*nge of the Act in 1852 creating the office of ordinary, lie was elected to tlic position, and has filled it ever since up to the hour of his death.— Only one ether Ordinary in the State, ».o far as we know, has filled the posi- without an interregnum since its cre ation, and that is Haywood Brookins, Esq., of Washington county. Judge Tooke was interred yesterday •it 1*2 M., in tlic new cemetery, by the Masonic fraternity of which he was a member, liis remains were fol lowed by n large concourse of friends, including a largo number of colored peonlc, to whom he has ever been a kind friend. His Honor, Judge JJan sell, adjourned the Superior Court ii honor of the dead; and Court and Bar attended the funeral services, which were hold at the residence of Col. Jas. L. Seward, brother-in-law of the ceased. At the last regular convocation of Thomasv’.lle Chapter the following fficer* were elected for the ensuin; year, and will he installed on the 27th Comp. A. //. Tlie Pliolographic Art—An El egant Establishment. pretty extensive observation among the photographic galleries in the different cities of this country jus tifies us in making the assertion that the Photographic and Art Gallery' of Mr. I). J. llynn, recently fitted up on Congress street, is one of the finest^ most comfortable and elaborate any where to be found. A visit to Mr. Kyan's gallery a day or two since fair ly astonished us. On the floor as you mount the stairs from the street is the Art Gallery proper. The front room is fitted up and furnished in the most elegant style as a reception room.— Here arc comfortable chairs, luxurious s'das and on one side of the room a magnificent piano, where the lady cus tomers may amuse themselves while iu waiting. The walls are hung around with the most beautiful pictures, the finest spccimeus of art, all of which attract the eje aud fix the ntteu'ion id the visitor. Here arc photographs, chromoa. lithographs, chrotno litho graphs, steel aud wood engravings, oil paintings, ivory types, porcelain?*, uiczzolius, portraits of celebrities, and on the tables the most beautiful stcrc- Onc of those social reunions, which as in ante bt'hnn times so character istic of the Southern youth, took p!acc at Madison, Florida on last Wednesday, tlie 17th inat. A large number of the young gentry of Middle Florida, met for the pur pose of testing, by well poised lance, to whom should be the honor, cf plac ing ou fuir woman’s brow, the royal emblem of power, and which she ever sways, o’er the stronger, but rougher pari of creation. Not reaching the place in time to witness the exciting tilt, we were fortunate however, in being prescut at the elegant, and rech erche affair which followed at night in the Court house. The riding was said to have been very fine, and resulted in the follow ing gentlemen wiuuing the guerd.n; ranking as in order uamul, viz: Mr. Fiank Thomas, Mr. Archie Beggs, Mr. //untcr Pope, and Mr. Carnet Stephens. These gentlemen by viilue of Uitir prowess, crowned the follow- voung ladies: Miss Mollie Parra- more of Madison, as queen of love and beauty, Miss Mosely Parra more of Madison, as first Maid of honor, Miss Mary 7/ull and Miss Mary Wood of Live Oak, as second and third Maids of honor, in the order named. Bight ;ally did these lair ladies wear their blushing honors, as the royal quadrille was fnrraod, and the measured notes of the Moore brothers, set impatient tcct in graceful motion. We have never seen, a more brill iant assemblage of fair ladies and gal lant gentlemen, aud regret our inabil ity to paint the scene, when, •A bundled heart* beat happily; A ou when rmiric arose will* it* voluptuous *jIi «•* o ’looked love to eyes which Fpakeacniu A i,d all went merry as a marriage bell/ The costumes of the ladies were rich, elegant, aud in the best of tasto; a display of those gentlu attributes of southern ladies, modesty and refiue- mcui, rather than of person, and which we trust, may long be a characteristic of our southern society, and southern ladies. We may mention the follow- ladies: The Misses llines, Miss Pope, Miss Livingston, Miss Dickin son, Mias Coffee, (aud many others.) who by their graceful, easy and win ning manners, drew about tbem a host of admirers, and were the recipients of that homage, which true manhood ever delights to lay at the feet of love ly woman. They fairly divided the honors of die evening with the ac knowledged Queen, and her beautiful attendants. But the enumeration is already bewildering, so wc will close us regards our fair friends, by saying; that the wretch, who could have pass ed through this ordeal, without a quickened pulse, and a desire to take care of somebody's daughter, deserves ♦o sew on his own buttons for life. It is only necessary to say, that the music was by the fatuous Moore Bro’s. It could net have been improved on. Wc arc under special obligations to our friends Mr. A. Livingston, Hunter Pope Eiq., Mr. James Stapler, aud others of the committee, for courtesies; and which wc beg to assure these gen tlemen, will be long remembered. Did space and time permit, we should like to speak of flic excellent breakfast at Mrs. Maddons, ou our return at MonticclJo, and of the experience and mishaps of our diflldent young fiiend V , who accompanied us. When memory shall go back aud turn over the leaves ol the post, upon one of the brightest, she shall ever find “Madison, Fla., Dec. 17tii, 1873” — will testify. It cam white*.
