The first lark that sang in Eden’s bowers, made not a less perfect nest, than the lark of to-day! Man has made great ad vancement in the arts and sciences; he alone possescs Alladins lamp—the mind Jic alone the good genii—the hand—to conceive, plan and carry in to execution. Man, physically and mentally, is a wonderful creation; were he as perfect morally, how happy he could be. But he has fallen from his high estate; sin and sorrow go hand in hand, but then we are encouraged to know that goodness and happiness are more united than David and Jou- athn—more inscpcrable than Buth and Naomi. Man alone, so far as we know, is immortal. We cheerfully yield space to to fore going, from our esteemed cotemporary. It breathes the right kind of a spirit, and no doubt reflects the true senti ments, of the people of Brooks county. The Thomasville Fair never has been a county Fair. We invite petiou from all of Southwest gnd Florida. We hope that the plan ters of Brooks county, may look upon the South Georgia A.&M. Association in ite true light; not hounded by the narrow limits of Thomas county. Thomas on the occasion of our next Fair, will bid them welcome, as she has ever done in the past; and we can but hope that tho planters of that county, will meet us in that generous spirit oi rivalry; which should charac terize slater oountios, whose people are so intimately connected as ours. The advice given the planters of Brooks, to commence preparation now, for*lhe feir, is applicable, with additional force to our own plantcrs. r We understand that a liberal premium list will be made out. for all kind of field crops. Now is the time to commence prepa ration, If onr planters would not havo adjoining counties sweep the band- some prizes, which will l*e given next year on cereals. \ j jf The spirit already manifested adjoining counties, on the renewed prospect of the TUonisvillo Fair, is an earnest, of the bright and successful future before it. We close by saying to our neighboring counties; go to work, prepare your grounds, and the South Georgia A. & M. Association, will offer you liberal premiums on your productions of 74, and will leave noth ing undone, to make the next- the grandest' display of term products, which’has ever been exhibited in Southwest Georgia. This is the grand aim and object of the Association. The long trial of Marshal Bazaine, has at length closed, lie was tenced to be degraded from the exalt ed position of a Marshal of Franco, and then to be shot. The Court how ever, recommended him to mercy and signed an appeal to Gec*l. or Presi dent McMahon in his behalf. His sentence has been commoted by the President to 20 yean* seclusion on lb« Island St Ula off Cannes. . ‘Forty years ago once seemed a long and weaiy pilgrimage to treaJ—it now seems but a step. And yet along the way, are broken shrines where a thousand hopes hsve wasted in to ashes, foot prints sacred under the drifting sands; green mounds whose grass is fresh with moistening tears: shadows we cannot forget— Garner the sunshine of those vanished years, and w ilb chastened steps and reasonable hopes, push on toward the evening whoee signal lights will /be seen swinging where the waters are still aad storms never beat* The young man who boasted that be could many any girl be pleased, found that be couldn’t please any.
