JautO-tf A Pleasant Surprise and a To- r-i, Methodist Church will agree with us that on last -Wednesday he had a pleasant surprise.' The good noble hemrted Udies of the church apprecia ting bis /hithfiilTabofTlSe*' post year and designing to encourage and cheer him ic his arduous duties, tor the pres ent, resolved on a novel bat good plan to do so; and on Tuesday a committee of ladles waited on all of the lady members, explained their object -and asked them to send ih to the parson age on Wednesday, during the day, some article, of any nature, necessary about housekeeping, anything they might choose, and of course they all agreed to send something. So early IFcdncsday morning, the presents be gan to pour in, and servants with waiters, baskets, sacks and the like besieged the parsonage, and the varie ty was amusing, and too numerous to mention. . , , Well, God bless the ladies. Where’e the man into whose head inch happy thought would have entered. We admire the spirit; such things go a mng way to cheer the preacher and lighten bis cares; and we know that this little act will give onr preacher a deal of happiness that will lost through the year, and ever cause his mind to revert with pleasure to the people ol ThoinasvHIe. We do not encourage our ministers enough no how, as a general thing. We take too much jaf a business view of it We may pay them well and all that but these, stdoli though they be, acts ot kindness, to kens of appreciation and encourage ments are loo often neglected. Where the church make It business pay him his salary aud say now go ahead, why, a preacher is human, and while his heart might dictate a different course he Is apt to make it business too or at >;asi he will not have his heart in it as he otherwise would. The surprise was complete and a magnificent success. The Stockholders meeting of the A A G li It., was well represented by Iliomasville. Monday ami Tuesday lights the iruin was crowded.
