Mass Media?.
By reference to the call published
elsewhere it will be seen that Satur
day, the lOtli inst M has been selected
by the Central Executive Committee
for a Mass Meeting of the voters of
the county to nomioate candidates
for the Legislature, ami if deemed ad-
isablc, for ilie couuty offices also.
Tills mode of selecting men for these
positions has !n*cn adopted instead of
convention of delegates from the va
rious districts, in order to secure a
fuller expression of the will of the
people. Il is, therefore, earnestly hop
ed that every Democratic voter will
give this day to his county. The
work is important and wc should be
core fill that it la well done. Section
al feelings, personal prejudice and
preferment should be laid aside and
the good of the county and the success
of the parti* made the sole aim. With
this sort of fecliug and the selection
of good men—men competent for the
place and able to command the great
est number ot votes, success is cer
tain. Without it defeat is highly
probable. Let us then com^ up eti
masse on the Hub, select good men,
work for their election an I in Novem
ber and January we will wipe from
the escutcheon of «!d Thomas the last
vestige of Radicalism.

last Sunday and was grossly abused
by sonic ladical uegrots ou accouut
of hi* politics. Now wc want to put
these rampant radicals on notice that
they will not be allowed to play that
kind of n gnmc in this canvass. Eve
ry man, while and tdack. has a right
to vote and avt with whnttvei party

The Crop*.
11 is with sincere regret that wc
learn of the reccut grertfc damngi
the coltou crop by the rust. Almost
every field is more or less injured, and
the general impression seems to In;
that only the present crop of bolls can
be counted on. Fortunately the bot
tom crop is a good oue, and in some
instances much ot the middle crop is
alrcndy matured, but the loss of a por
tion of this latter mid all of the lop
crop will place the yield far below
what was a reasonable count only a
slioit lime since. The coin crop, also,
has seriously suffered by the late
drought, many farmers Claiming that
their crops have been cut off fully
one-half This, liowcvci, is not uni
versal iu the county, some sections
having a yield considerably above an
average. W ith good seasons hence
forward the cane, pea and potato crops
will prove good, aud wc hope with
close economy aud a careful saving of
everything that is made, the farmers
will find themselves in a belter con
dition than they now anticipate, and
ccrtaiuly iu a belter 0110 than they
were the In-ginning of the present
year.

Thc democratic party must be $

to stand square up to the nominees.—
As many ot you as like go into thc

hearty and cordial support.
Wc occasionally hear a remark of
this kind ou thc street; “If such and
such an oue is nominated,! will not
for him.” And this from demo
crats too. This will not do gentle
men. Whenever our conventions
meet, from Governor down, there
should be uo kickiug in tlio traces.—
It is the clear and bounden duty of
every member of the party to stand

The call issued in the Enterprise

they all had good intentions, but some
unforeseen himlcraucc picvculcd
them from floodiug the office with

aud oilier of the good things of this
life. It is encouraging to know that
il* labors arc not unappreciated.
Mr. Charles Vann had in market
i Thursday some of the finest peach-
i we have seen this season. This
crop was al most entirely ruined by
cold aud the small quantity which re
mained upon thc trees are generally
wormy and inferior; hut these were
really line—equal to thc best of a fa
vorable season.
Mr. Editor:—The Enterprise of
thc 2*3lli inst. publishes au article
over the signature of “Onward” which
purpor’s to Ik? a criticism upon an ar
ticle from “Wiregrass” in the Times
of tlie 22nd. “Onward” asserts that
hut “one question should he propound*
ed to nspiratiis, aud that is the con-
veuliou question.” Whence this mod
ern Soloiuou? who assumes to speak
foi the whole county? lie wishes to
know “how many pouuds of pork have
bceu saved in the county by the op
erations of the game law." ’ Candidly
I am unable to give thc information;
the returns show that in 1870 we had
in the county 13,035 hogs; iu 1S70 wc
have 10,505; 1 can ? l tell whether this
remarkable saving has bceu thc re
sult of the game law or otherwise.—
Thc fact ot buviug been represented
by white men for two years past has
not bceu lost sight of, and uo chargi
was brought against thc two gcalle-
men, whoso uobly watched over the in
teres ts of our people. But must it of nec
essity follow that they were able to ac J
complisb all the work tending to thc
benefit of our county, and undoing all
that had previously beeu done by our
euemies? No remark of mine had
personal beariug, and I refuse to have
my 8cntiineuts so construed. “On
ward” says that I need information
ou county reticuclimenL Of thc whis
key and tobacco I have nothing to sav,
except that the people (I assure) do
not believe it necessary for a county
officer, because lie happens to be such,
to spend eight or nine hundred dollars
for these articles. Thc Tax Receiver
he says, gets lor the present year
$043.82. Thc citizens also know that
this compensation is lor less than
four months labor. IFherc is tlic evi
dence of retrenchment ol which “O/i-
traii/” boasts? Where is the material
redaction in Taxes? Why should
important bridges become impftesablo
for want of money iu the countytreas-
ury? Will Onward give us some yum
upon these questions? There is no
desire on my part to bring in “minor
issues” to divide the party, but will to
thc best of my ability work for thc
Democratic ticket, and would use my
influence, and give my vote for Mr.
Onward to any office, if he happened
to be thc democratic nominee; but if
a delegate lo a convention, should
ucver support his nomination, with
his present views.
Jfi*. Onward, with intense irouv, of
fers me thc office of coroner, and ’pro
poses that I should adopt the nom dc
plume of cheap John. To thc first
proposition, I must express my thanks
for thc gentlemans disinterested kind
ness and at thc same time to iufortn
him that I am not a candidate for
«u.y office, and deem it my duty lo re
tire, when so many are patriotically
willing to sacrifice themselves for the
benefit of their country, especially
where a salary of ten or fifteen hun
dred dollars is involved. Onward is
anxious that no division should take
place among thc people and his efforts
arc simply to divert such a calamity.
This is a laudable effort and I offer my
hand upon it, but should this diversion
take place there would be about three
dozen prospective office holders on
one side and thc lax payers ou tlic
other. To the proposition of change
of signature, allow me to say that if
the intimation is predicated upon thc
want of fluency displavcd upon my re
trenchment views I accept it with pride.
There was no thought when my form
er short article was written, of drop
ping a lighted match in the political
magazine, but you will fiud Mr. On

izens will act upon sentiments akin to
mine and with uo intention of crea

Dear Sib:—Mystlf and family arc
filled with joy to sec that the cancer,
on my face, of five years sfandin;
which you treated lor me some time
since, is entirely well.
Yes, rest assured Docior. that lan-
juage fails us when wc attempt to tell
3’ou how much wc rejoice at your s
cess in curing me of cancer.
Before making up my miud
call on you for treatment I expected,
as a matter of course, that I was
doomed man—that sooner or later _
should be compelled to succumb to its
natural ravages.
But thank God! lie lias given ui
pbysiciau conipleteut to manage this
terror to all mankind—and that such
influences were brought to bear u|*oo
me that I was constrained to give you
a trial—to put ray case into such
hands.
IFonId to God, that I had voice suf
ficient to reach all the suds of thc
earth that I might persuade all, Sanita
ted with cancer, lo give their cases into
3’our hands for treatment al thc earli
est jossiblc moment.
1 was a monished that vour treat-
mint gave me so little pain. Indeed,
ibis account I was compelled

necessary t«*give pain to cure cancer,
Your treatment gave me little or no
pain at aii. Never losing a mo

meat. Quite au item with those
wishing treatment 1 assure you doctor.
We all naturally shuck from pain.—
Allow me to tender ihanks for your
kindness and extreme tenderness *
me while under treatment.
Publish this letter.-should you sec-
fit that some r»oor sufferer j*erchanw
may read, and be thereby induced to
put tbeir cases io your hands and be
