Where great pain and sorrow smart.
There nre angels bearing to us
Love's rich ministry to peace;
While the night is nearing to us.

T. H. BOLSHAW’S
There arc those who battle slander,
Envy, jealousy and hate;
Who would rather die than pander
To the passions of earth's great;
No more earthly power can crush them,
They dread not the tyrant's frown;
Neither fear nor favor hush them,
' Never bind their sprits down.
There is much that is strange in
the blue glass theory—for instance,
the conjunction of opposite electrici
ties, the expansion of the molecules
of the glass, and the generation of
currents of electromagnetism. An
other strange thing is the occnlt re
lation existing betweeu the number
of miracles wrought au<l the Inurf-
' ness enterprise of the glass dealers.
The 11 medial action depends quite
as much upon the number
of squares taken by the vitreous ad
vertisers in the local papers os upon
the number or size of the panes.—
In providence blue glass is working
well. A book-keeper who hod been
tortured with rheumatism forseveral
years inserted six panes of blue glass
iu liis office windows, exposed his
foot, arm and shoulder to the light,
ami within forty-eight hours was
cured. An elderly lady whose left
knee, ankle and foot were swollen to
twice their natural size, bathed in
blue light, and iu three-quarters of
aii hour the soreness and inflamma
tion disappeared. An old gentle
man whose right foot has been use
less for a year is slowly recovering
Ixdiind three mazarine panes. The
wife of a prominent manufacturer
who has been afflicted with paraly
sis and unable to walk for three
years, was carried down stairs iu the
parlor and immersed in blue light
In the course of an honr or two the
family below were startled by sounds
overhead, and on entering the par-
lar what was their astonishment to
find that she had risen from her
chair and walked across the floor.—
Strength had returned to her limbs,
she was able to move her arms, and
immediately incredulity in the effica
cy of blue gloss was banished from
that house.

In a recent lecture delivered in
Edinburgh, on “The Stars,”Profess
or Grant gave a graphic idea of the
immensity of space. He said
railway train traveling night and
day at tho rate of fifty miles an hour
would reach the moon in six months,
the sun in two hundred years, and
Alpha ('entanri, the nearest of the
fixed stars, in forty-two millions of
years. A bah from a gun, traveling
at the rate of nine hundred miles an
hour, would reach Aplia Centauri in
2,700,000 years; while light, travel
ing as it did at the rate of 185,000
miles iu a second, would not reach
it in less than three years. Light
from some of the telescopic stars
would take 5,700 years to reach the
earth; and from some of these clus
ters the distance was so great that
light would take half n million years
to pass the earth, so that wc saw ob
jects not as they really are, but os
they were half a million years ago.
These stars might have become ex
tinct thousands of years ago, and
yet their light might present itself
to us. As to the magnitude of the
stars, he noticed that it was compu
ted that Alpha Lyra was one hun
dred billions of miles distant from
the earth, and its magnitude and
splendor were as 20 to 1 when com
pared with our sun. Similar invest
igatious brought out the fact that
our sun was neither vastly greater
nor vastly less than the great major
itv of the still’s.
