On Monday we rode, horseback,
from this place to J. L Brown’s
about nine miles northeast, on the
t prong of Barnett’s creek. We
, everywhere, evidences of a con
siderable blow, bnt the power of the
wiud was especially evinced in four
tracks, or streaks. Half a mile south
west of Win. Baggett’s, we saw a
number of trees piled round in a
perfect circle, as if the funnel of the
whirl had just dipped to the ground
at that point and instantly risen.—
Beyond Baggett’s house, another
streak had passed through his field,
piling the timber considerably. The
next streak came to the ground on
the east side of west Barnett’s lay
ing ont the timber in the George
Jierrit ‘deadning” and then appa
rently bounding over the swamp of
the branch toward the place where
we used to live, to remain in the air
or descend again, at some point un
known to us.
But the worst current of all we
saw crossed Brown’s fann and
roared along within two hun
dred yards of his hoase. Here

this section on Sunday morning
