A match game of base ball was plsyed in Fairburn yesterday between the Opera House Club of thie city and the Fairburn Club, of the former place. This is the first game of the season for the Opera House boys, sad with such a start they promise to make things livsly for their contestants during the year. But it ia not my purpose to criticise the motives or intelligence of those writing or publishing such prescriptions aa the one in ques tion; their motives are doubtleaa good; they emanate doubtleaa, from tbe purest of sources; but the fact of itseif does not in anywise give efficacy to a worthless or dangerous prescription. But suppose, only for illustration, that tbe remedy in question is a “ gooil thing ” what of it ? Those not skilled in the heal ing art could not treat Asiatic Cholera so successfully with all the known remedies in tbe world at hand. Cholera is as varied in its nature, and as complicated in its treatment aa any other disease. It resembles other maladies in this, that nq two attacked are ex actly alike. Some aie from the predominance of one fatal symptom, and others from the predominance of another. Chancellor of tbe Btate a well recently dug in this city. It appears that he gave orders to have the well dug, and work was begun upon it. Before tbe laborers had dug more than tsn or twelve feet in depth, they came «pon a bold spring of water, with a strong odor and a decided taste of minerals. Col. Wilson had it analysed by a chemist, who pronounced it perfectly free from animal matter, and of mineral ingredients almost identical with those of the celebrated Congress Water. The water ia full of gases, and when first poured out effervesces like other mineral waters. Col^Wilson should place hia discovery to profitable ac"unt. He has tried the water himself aud finds it moat beneficial in its ac tion. It should be stated tbat the lead upon which the spring wa* opened is made ground, so it is more than probable tbat this water once flowed in the open air, and was covered up by men ignorant of its min eral properties and of its qualities aa a medicinal agent I. THE HISTORY OF THE ASIATIC CHOLERA is simply as follows: It has long been endemic in India. It first made its appearance in Europe in 1831, and tbe following year crossed tbe Atlantic and ap peared in the United States. It visited many, perhaps all, our large seaboard and river cities, almost decima ting some of them, and took ita departure until 1834, when it again returned with increased malignity. It again visited these shores in 1847-8, since which time it has been more or less prevalent in certain parts o f the country. It has now, doubtleaa, become endemic amongst us. SYMPTOMS. The incipient symptoms are generally marked by a premonitary diarrhoea, attended with occasional nausea, slight cramps and heaviness about the bead. In other cases the disease i* ushered in suddenly with violent vomiting and purging, not of bile, aa is the case in common cholera, but of a rice colored fluid, with painful aud intolerable spasms of the abdominal aud other muscles. The pulse soon begins to fail; tbo skin is cold and bathed with cold clamy perspiration ; tbe features are sunken and col lapsed ; the urine is entirely suppressed ; the vomit ing and purging constantly grow worse; the powers of life failed, the patient grows anxious and restless, while death with steady steps hastens to c»ose the sad drama.
