Yesterday was a lucky lay for grave magistrates
and persuading constables, but rather unprofitable
to sons* of the colored troops. It was the pleasure
of Justice Monday, early In the morning, to issne
his mandate to bis bailiff, authorising
and directing him to arrest one An
drew Davis, colored, on the novel charge of
reducing from the path of rectitude and virtue Alice
Johnson, a colored woman. The defendant was
promptly arrested and brought into court, and was
rather inclined to confess his demoralizing ten
dency by accepting a proposition from
womaa to settle the dispute and lltfle
difference between them by uniting together la the
holy bonds cf matrimony. After some little exertion
the astounded prospective husband secured the
raaary amount of “acada” to induce Judge Httraan to
gnat him license to marry. Accordingly at 8 f. m .
the parties plunged into either the pacific or stormy
sea of matrimoay, with little else save their farmer
experience io guide them on the great voyage. Jus
