thanks to ail who aided them in their “Bazaa-,” to Mr.
Thurman for his building, to the ladies of the Second
Baptist Church for their invaluable services, and es

band, which contributed so much to the pleasure of
all, aod last, but by no means least, to the city papers
for their several notices.
Suddf.it Death.—We regret to learn that it an early
hour yesterday morning Mr. Thomas Buzbee, who
kept a beef market on McDonough street, died there
suddenly. A few minutes before his death he called
to a gentleman named Smith, say.eg, "Smith, come
in here, I am dying!” Mr. Smith went in and Mr.
Buzbee was dead in a few minntes thereafter. Mr. B.
was a too-in-law of Dr. W. H. Pepg, whose recent sud
den death shocked the community. This seems a se
vere visitation on the family, who, wc are certain, will
have the sympathy of all in their deep afflictions.

This was the reflection of a policeman who had been
several times notified of the rushing way Green Mar-
- one-legged negro, bad of doing things after dark.
He went to a ball at Henry Barnes’ summer residence
on Ivy street, sad having but one good leg he got
drunk on that one, and laid dm to rest. Green was
a dilapidated specimen of Decatur street unwholesome-
(se. His wss so seedy an exterior that be was liable
at any moment to be mistaken for "surface indica
tions by the paper mill man in quest of material, and
be bored through tbe aaopbagns with
cork screw. He hadn’t clothes enough
on him to wad a gun, and seemed in the sim
plicity of his nature to be so green, not alone by name,
that he wouldn't have known "G” from .a horsetrack.
To cure him of his verdancy, “Green” wss required
to pay the city tea of his ’ backs ~ and not having
that many "past him,” he was deposited in the City
Stons Laboratory, where he will amuse himself for
the next two weeks, observing tbe accuracy of the
statements of "Old Proba” In regard to the weather,

“Like a ship without a sail
Or a rat without a tail.

Mr. McCorland went to sleep on the sidewalk with
his boots on and hi* breeches in his boots, contrary
to municipal regulations, and wss guilty of a brech of
Police etiqustte. He came in lookiug very drunk
about the hair, and strangely indifferent as to the
number of candidates for Alderman in the First Ward.
He divided his personal effects, amounting to ten and
costs, with the corporation.
A case of beer selling on Sunday, in a retired nook,
came up. A simple old Teuton, named Scbniff.or some

produced between a sneeze and a cough, was the only

out of court, not, however, without getting the Juige’
peculiar ideas of Sunday beer drinking.
Miles Moffett got several miles away from tbebeate
path of virtue. He was also aa attendant at Heury
Barnes’ bail, and because Mrs. Henry Barnes
strated with Miles for being drunk, he quietly shiv
ered a pint tumbler over Henry's head, and then gave
the war-whoop for hostilities to open. He was joined
by several other Modocs, when the Peace Commission

A Good Appointment.—His Honor Judge Pittman,
yesterday, appointed our young and energetic friend,
JameaD. Collins, Esq., Clerk of the Superior Court
cf Fulton county, to fill the vacancy occasioned by
the death of Mr. Venable, until an election can be
held. This we consider a judicious selection, for Mr.
Collins has for a long while acted as deputy cleik,
und r appointment from his deceased uncle, and is
therefore, familiar with the business of the office—a
very important point, when it is remembered that the
Fall session of the Const is near at hand. We pre.lict
that Jim will discharge the duties of the office to the
entire satisfaction of the public.

Swep Cooper struck another darkey in the mouth
with the back of hia hand, and then thTew a rock at
him. He was passed bock for further cooperage, and
the Court paused on to Ames Crockett, who, from his
demeanor, must have been a near relation to old Davy.
He came in with one eye in a sling and his nose .ook-
mg as if it had been used by the street gang for pack
ing stones under the street railroad. Becoming dis
gusted with the action of the City Council in recons d-
ering the act paying Dr. Pinckney $50, and failing to
get his views of the reduction in city expenses passed,
he threw himself outside of a quart of West End "sa
lubrity,” and retired for the evening. He produced
in Court a printed discharge from the Confederate
service, and stated among others things that he paid
his own fare from Philadelphia to Atlanta, and hoped
the Court would recognize iu him a gentleman of the
first water. The Court couldn’t see it in those lights,
but concluded that Amos was a little crazy, and le
him go.
W. T. Williams, though not a professional drinkist,
was a little flashed with wine the other evening, and
threw himself in an attitude of hostility towards all
things animate in sight, and finally closed in a death
hug with the police. He is now sojourning for a few
days in the citj, and baa taken rooms at the Barry
Hotel. He has also taken hammere, and Macadamized
sonp is served up to him hoorly.

The sadden change iu the weather yesterday wss
most invigorating and quite refreshing, as compared
to the {last week. It was decidedly fa!lieh, and those
gentleman who will presist in wearing linen suits in
warm weather were forced to overhaul their stock and
get into something more congenial. Even Fox, whose
taste for tight linen pants and short tail coats is pro
verbial, was seen lato in tha evening with Lis haud
rammed to his elbows in his breeches pockets and the
linen coat collar turned up iu a weak attempt to up-
sar comfortable.
About daylight yesterday morning, a young gentle-

room-mate, was awakened by the unexpected entrance
into his room of a supposed burglar. He watched his
friend’s movements lor a few moments in the dusky
twilight, who was tipping arouod the room lightly to
keep from awakening him. As he approached the bed
the young man could stand it uo longer, and giving a
regular Comanche yell, he spmng out on the opposite
side, and was in the act of making the mat er serious
when a mutual explanation revealed how matters stood.

We notice from a late issue of the Louisville Ledger,
that General Gordan aul Mr. Slay maker, both of At-
lanU, are in Louisville, maklcg arrangements to
toblieh a manufactory for Slay maker’* Patent Improved
School Furniture, Lawn Seats and several other im
provements which Mr. Slay maker lias made and pa
tented. The Ledger speaks in the most complimentary
terms of these gentlemen, and i-iqecially of the
inventions, and tho objects of their visit to that
city, and indorse* tho movement, and urges upon their
capitalists the pecuniary advantages to l»e derived
from an investment in such manufactures.
It Is well known that Mr. Slsymtkor made incff«c
efforts to raise a stock company in this city for the
complishmcnt of the very purpose for whieh he has
to go abroad, aud that he succeeded in getting only
about $5,0u0 subscribed from the whole city, and two
thousand of that waa by xn enterpriring manufacturer
whose experience showed him at a glance the benefits
to bs derived from such an investment. But it
quires more money than our people were disposed to
nvest, hence these gentlemen are compelled to seek
other climes for that which Atlanta should claim and
foster. They found no difficulty in getting $20,000
subscribed, an amount sufficient to start with, which
and will be increased at pleasure, if necessity re
quires.
BOur mechanics as well as moneyei men must learn,
sooner or later, the importance of such movements
before they can expects rapid and profitable return of
their investments of skill aod money. There was
real necessity for this movement oa the part of the
enterprising gentlemen who are pushing this thing,
further than the lack of judgment and nerve on th<
part of those of our citizens who should control such
matters. We have iu our midst tho skilled labor and
