The Zouaves.—Hereafter ba it distinctly under
stood this journal is the chosen organ of the Zouaves.
They are our crowd! The Katydids, the ••Gov’s,”
occupy a tack seat in the chamber of our esteem. We
are for the “Zu-Zus” first, last and all the time. They
made a splendid display on their first drill of W’educs-
day, aud we calculate will astonish just about seven
teen companies and a half at the State Fair. Their
uniform is the dashiest and most brilliant thing ever
seen in Atlanta. They performed some new and
handsome evolutions on the parade ground on Wed
nesday, and astonished everybody by tbeir proficiency
in drill. S rgeeut James Loyd is very probably the
best drilled man in Atlauta. Three cheers aud a
tiger for the "old boys.”
That Habeas Coarus Case.—Judge Pittman yes
terday investigated the habeas corpus case between
Mr. James E. Ccx and Mrs. Lula Cox, mentioned
some days ago. The evidence, which is conflicting,
and much of which is unfit tor publication, was gone*
through with, aud the arguments deferred till this
morning. The matter involved is tte po^ession oi
the children.

WHY CAN’T WE HAVE OXK?
A correspondent sugg« Sts, and wesccind his sug
gestion, that ou next Saturday afternoon the three
military companies of Atlanta shall have a dress i'a
rade at the City Drill Park. All are now handsomely
uniformed, pretty well drilled aud splendidly aimed,
and such a parade would attract thousands to the
grounds. Let it be done !

A railroad conductor the other day, in ■passing

the colored citizens, saw an old darkey on his way to
Opelika to attend the Convention recently held at this
place. The old man’s faro was demanded, and he to!d
the conductor (Las he didn’t have a cent, that he was
a delagi*, and that he apoaed delsgits travelled free.
The conductor after informing him that such was not
the case, told him that he would liavo to put him off
