YELLOW JACK. The Plague in Memphis and Shreveport. Mm phis, September 19, 1873. Twelve yellow fever deaths yesterday. The munic ipal authorities voted ten thousand dollars toward the Associations of Masons, Odd Fellows and Typos, for the purpose of providing for their afflicted brethren. New Orleans, September 19,1873. Stage mails to Shreveport have been resumed. Fear of the fever reaching here has abated. THE FEVER IN VICKSBURG. Yellow Fever in Mississippi — Vicksburg Filled with Shreveport Refugees— Horrible Stories of the Pestilence There. Special Cobrespondbnc* Atlanta Herald.] Vicksbubo, September 17, 1873. N olwithataading the fact that the physicians here only call the prevailing fever •• pernicious fever/' or a bad form of bilious fever, still the prevailing opinion is that we are on the verge of an epidemic of yellow fever, and all persons who are now absent had better remain away. The merchants seem afraid to let the country know the danger here, for fear of losing trade. The city is filled with refugees from Shreveport. Their talc of the sufferings of that peo ple is simply horrible beyond conception. Death is stalking abroad everywhere. Up to this time, from the best information I can gather there have been about two hundred deaths in Shreveport. Instances are related where whole families have been taken down, and not a one left to administer to the wants of the others. Taa r arages of the disease are confined principally to the whites. It is said that tha origin of the disease wa« in a wrecked cargo of Texas beef cattle, whose bodies were allowed to putrify and rot on the river shore two miles below the city. In any event the fatality baa been great, and the need of the eofferers is pressing and great. Tr wkllrr. WASHINGTON. Financial and Commercial. They are first carefully distilled from lected stock and stored away until they have attained a certain age, when they are Re-Diidilled by u Peculiar Pioceas, which extracts the fusel oil, but retains tho essential oils of the grain. It ia the fusel oil which possessc tho poisonous properties, and imparts the sharp, acrid flavor noticeable in many brands of whisky; it is ferment and essential oils which impart the rich, oily, mellow flavor, and it is principally in EXTRACTING THE FUSEC, OIL, and retaining the essential oils, which constitutes the superiority and peculiarity of this process. At tho tirno of re-disiiilatiou, the packages thoroughly cleansed and steamed out, refilled with the perfected product, and again stored away to ripen and mellow with age, which it does in a much greater de gree than is possible without such treatment.
