the murder of Auethe M. Christensen, at
Smutty Nose Island, the prisoner was brought
into court at 2 o’clock by three deputy sher
iffs, and placed in the prisoners’box. The
court room was densely packed, many ladies
being present. His counsel, the Hon.
R. T. Tapley, of Saco, and Max Fisch-
bacber, of Boston, were present and in
reply to a question from the Court, replied
that they had nothing to say in behalf oi the
prisoner. County Attorney Yeaton, in the
absence of the Attorney-General, then arose
and said: “I now perform the last remaining

At a camp meeting at Middletown, in Lake
county. Cal., a lady, under great excitement,
aud while shouting aud clapping her hands,
declared she wanted to die then and there.
Her wish was granted, lor she almost instantly
