The Mennonites. Trom the Leavenworth Commercial, Sept. 26. Some of the Rnssian Mennonites have had extreme difflenlty in deciding upon a settle ment. Rends the large colonies who located in Kansas, some of them went up to Jim river, Dakota, and others to Nebraska, and settled near Snttoe, on the P. and M. Many who started to Nebraska, desiring to see the Jim river country, went up in Dakota. Bnt they are now coming back to Nebraska, and some of them design coming to the Kansas location of their old friends and neighbors. The first installment from the north passed through Omaha and went down south of the Platte on Monday. The remainder, over four hundred strong, are now on their way across the coun try, and will arrive there next week. Ve valne the acquisition of such immi grants. These Mennonites are the peace-peo ple of Russia, driven away from their native country by refusal to do military duty. They bring wealth also, having over $100,000 in gold with them. Gaerrazzi, who was proclaimed die- i receipts 2,627 bales; sales 624; stock 11,675. tator of Rome in 1849, died in that city on j Tuesday, at the age of eighty-six years. He was brought np in the legal profession and practised at Leghorn previous to the revolu tionary outbreak of 1847-8. In this outbreak he took a very prominent part, and was pros ecuted by the authorities in coosequence. Imprisoned lor a short time, in 1848, he had no sooner regained his liberty than he placed himself in communication and intimate rela tion with Mazzini, Gioberti and other well- known agitators, founded a republican jour nal at Florence, was chosen a deputy in the National Assembly of Tuscany, and appoint ed minister of the interior in the month of October, 1848. After the departure of the Grand Duke of Tuscany from his capital— February 7, 1849—Gaerrazzi became a mem ber and subsequently, in March., the chief of the provisional gevernment, which was over thrown in the following month. Gaerrazzi was arrested April 14, and removed in June to the State prison at Volterra, where he was detained until Jane in the year 1853. His trial was there only brought to a close. Sen tenced to perpetual banishment, he proceeded to Marseilles ; bnt, not being permitted to re side there, he removed to Rastia, in Corsica. In the year 1855 he was permitted to return to Piedmont. He took np his abode at Sa vona fox a season and then removed to Genoa. He was a versatile and prolific writer. George Francis Train has imitated Ned Buntline, Buffalo Bill, and Texas Jack. The following advertisement appears in the Springfield (Mass.) Republican of Wednes day: “Opera House. Saturday evening, Sep tember 27. One night only. Bonds 96 b California newspapers ore publishing re miniscences of John Farrington, a notorious character, who has just been discharged in a San Francisco police court on a complaint of murder. One story related of him is that once, while in jail for some offense, he lent bis “spike-tail coat” to a casual acquaintance w ho was hanged. But he reclaimed his gar ment when he foand that the Sheriff was about to bury the man in it, and, angry at the hard treatment it had received, he de clared be would never have his coat bunged again.
