TI MLIN'S REMARKABLE PLAN. To THr. Editors of the Herald: I, with many cthers.read with pleasure your piomp reply to the proposition of Mr. Tomlin’s published, and aB I thiDk sanctioned by the Constitution. As you say, it is the most absurd proposition I have yet overboard advanced. Does not any one know that ♦ lie farmer makes money when he gets 1.") cents for his cotton, and whether he does or not, is it not hia duty as an honorable man to meet liis obligations at matu rity, if it be possible for him to do so? Tbe mer chants have to meet their bank notes promptly or tlieir credit is gone; and I will venture to say not one farmer out ot t« n expected to get over 15 cents for his cotton when be purchased the surplies to make it. I am glad to see a new spaper that will speak what it honestly thinks as the Herald does! Long may it ' prosper. Yours, Merchant, j THE ELECTION YESTERDAY. Wc have before referred to this gentleman, the oldest and one of the most reliable insurance men in this country. Heretofore we have spoken of him when we wished to call attentton to his advertisement, and hence what we have said about him has had the appearance of bcin.? a paid puff; but speak the honest sentiment of our heart. From one of the oldest and best families of this country, Major Whitucr is instinctively, aud in every fibre of liis soul, a gentleman. He is, therefore, re liable. Those having business with him may confide implicitly in his statements and pledges. Ho has de voted his time and his talents from the time of the completion of his education to tho subject aud prac tice of insurance, and th«rc aro few, if any, men in this country who understand the subject better Iban he docs. Ho lias insured millions of property and paid out hundreds of thousands of dollars on losses; and never yet his there been tho slightest trouble re sisting from bis preparation of his policies. His knowledge, therefore, renders him ouo of the very safest men to entrust such business to. And last, Major Whitner has good reliable compa nies, which are able to pay and prompt and just iu settlements. We hope every person who has ever given him insurance heretofore will continue it with him. If he says your property is safe in bis compa nies, rely upon it as true. To all our people we say, give him your confidence and your patronage. WHY WILL YOU SUFFER with Rheumatism, when you can be so by calling at No 411*3, Broed Street? On yesterday, bearing that Mrs. Smith, who ia asso ci.»ted with Dr. F. F. Taber, had eflected a moat re- , markable cure of a case of long standing iheumatism with which. Dr. J. S.
