Crimps.
i have just been reading a harangue upon
tho fDlly of Belt-adornment in women. The
writ*r admits that it ie well enough for girls
to crimp their hair, but after marriage the}’
should give up their crimping plus, and wear
*.heir tresses us nature made them. Recouut-
.ng his reasons, the girls, be says, may sc-
< lode themselves Irom mortal eyes till such
time as the crimps are ready to fledge into
waves; but he thinks with horror of the hus
band who is forced to see his wife in ail the
hideousness ol her hurd-bnnchcd hair. For
him no illusion, not even the grace of nature s
own provision, shows him only deformity and
thorough preliminaries of beauty.
Why should we talk? Let a girl who, by
waving and pnffing and crimping and cloud
ing, by braids of bought hair, by tulle and
crepe, and flower, ribbon and arrow, had
made her herself up into a pretty, picturesque
.ttleworkof household art—let her, alter
marriage, fl itten all her puffs, abandon braids
..nd bows, wear only her hair, combed as
neatly as yotTplease, straight behind her ears,
