The sale of cat flowers and house plants at retail in 'bis city last year, it is said, reached the large sum of two million dollars, and daring the present season the indications are that the sales will be greatly in excess of those figures. These stands arc filled with moss,and built up with growing plants aud cut flowers. A recent order of this kind was filled at an expense of five hundred dollars, For these occasions almost any design suggested by those interested can be furnished by the flor ists. Two of the largest retail dealers in flowers and plants in the city are Hodgson, who is now erecting a new store at the corner of Forty-fifth street and Fifth avenue, and Sie- brecht, whose place of business is oa the comer of Forty-second street’ and Fifth ave nue, just above the reservoir. Both of these establishments have greenhouses out of towu. Those owned by Siebrecht are situated at As toria, as stated in a former article; and Hodg son's are at Washington Heights. A new design lor presenta tion is now introduced in the foi in of straw baskets. These are made in all shapes, and, when decorated uith snnlax, as well as filled with flowers, are very beautiful. They cost all the way from five to fifty dollarj. NEW YEAR’S TLOWERS. A great demand is made on the florists for New Year’s decorations, and some of the dealers sell upwards of five thousand dollars worth of flowers for that day. At the Sie brecht establishment, on the day before last New Year, thirty men and boys were employed in stemming flowers, while the proprietor and his assistants made them up into boquets and other elaboiate designs. Flowers for New Years decorations are ordered alike by rich and poor. FLOWERS JOB EASTER. The Easter decorations'of onr city churches are very eloborate. A fitting display of flowers is always made by the vestrymen or trustees, and liberal offerings are sent in by all who are religiously and devoutly disposed.
