property of (he country and the liberties of ■
tbe people.
In his opinion, our present financial cm-.
barrassments are the legitimate results of the i
;>ei»icions practice of planters borrowing
money to make cotton; together with the gi-1
gantio frauds foisted upon the commercial ■
..onAdence of tbe people by the magnates of ;
these syndicate developers and fiiends of the I
tyrants at Washington, in their wild specula-j
tiona with other people's money; building
sihoads in localities where the commerce of
tbe country will not pay.
He urged the planters to abandon at once j
this ruinous practice and to livo within their '
own means, make their provisions at home,
and all would again become prosperous, buppy j
and great.
