An appeal to railroad official# was iasnsd from the
C-tizens’ Relief Committee, at a late hour last night
at which time a larger number of new cases were re
ported than on any day during the past two weeks.
The latest afternoon report0 of the Visiting Commis
sion are unfavorable. The disease is becoming more
t ottered throughout the city. There were forty-one
4 ever death* to-day.

Foity-four yellow fever deaths on Friday, ending
at six o’clock last night.
A bale ol cotton sect from Walnut Bend to be sold
for the benefit of the Dominico Sisters, brought
$15,000. The shipper will send it to St. Louis to be

Reports to-day were encouraging.

Taylor Adams, of Atlanta, Georgia, for the past seven
years an operator in the Western Union Telegraph
office in New Orleans, died in the latter city last night,
Norfolk, October 16, 1673.
The Common Council of this city, in a special aef-
»:on last night, made an appropriation of $1,500 for
tee Memphis sufferers; and also passed a resolution
it. orcmendiDg to the people of Norfolk to make indi-
v.ioal subscriptions for the same purpose. Contribu*
t.ons to a considerable amount frem benevolent aaso-
lions in the city have already gone forward to the
relief of Memphis and Shreveport.

Upon re-convening of the Asaembly, the Right
Centre, acting in unison with the Ministry, intend to
propose the prolongatien of McMahon, tennre-of-
office, aa President. The Left are willing to accept
the proposition aa accompanied by a plan for u defi
nite organization of a Republic since the late election.
Many wavering Papin« have declared in favor of
the Republic. At a meeting yesterday of Bonapartist
Deputies, at which Rooher presided, the organization
of a vast system of petitions, advocating an appeal to
tho people, was discussed.
There are rumors afloat that dia-iagreements have
arisen between the governments of France and Italy*
It is stated that upon the termination of the present
crisis, the Chevalier Nigra, Italian Minister, will take
leave of absence for an unlimited time.

The delegation which met Count de Chambord at
Salsebnrg on the 12th instant is expected to return to
Paria to day.. The details of the conference are un
known, but it Is believed that the negotiations have
failed.

The Press ol to day says the explanation and ex
cuses of the parties relative to the circular recently
sent abroad by letter, are not s tisfactory, and Count
Andrassy will demand ample satisfaction for the
offense.

The Eutuula Fair i* progressing most satis-
, factorily. All the departments were well
j represented, and the crowd is much larger
i than that attending any previous fair.
There is some spirited racing, the majority
of the horses entered being native.
Clay, with his matchless four-in-hand, is
present. A gentleman who witnessed the
Shah’s reception in London, says he saw no
team to equal Clay’s.
The best of feeling prevails, and mirth and
pleasure rule the hour.
Hon. C. C. Langdon addressed a large au
dience to-day in a splendid speech.
The Pioche Record say;: "We have many
beautiful meteors these autumn nights. One
evening a beautiful swain said to his ‘sweet
ness:’ ‘.Some of these falling stars seem to
leave behind them a bright path, as if they
were celestial messengers flying earthward,
the dust of heaven falling from ttaeir feet, and
making a track of light behind.’ ‘They alters
makes me think about the circus man that
swallowed fire.’”
The Laramie Sentinel sends up this Mace

bsiiog named Sir Edward Thornton to act aa Umpire,

government will consent to his acting in that capacity,

The counsel for Slstter, convicted of murder, have
moved for a trial, on the grounds of tbs discovery of
important fresh testimony of the misconduct and
perjury of two jurors, and tbe verdict being against
law and evidence. There ia au intelligent feeling in
favor of Slatter.
