Serious Charges against the Detective Force.
Nrw York, October 20, 1873.
It M said that charges of a most serious character
have been preferred against various members of the
Detective's squad, at police headquarters. The prin
cipal of these charges is understood to be based on
the alleged collision between two of the detectives and
George McDonnell, lately convicted of forgery in Lon
don.
II ta alleged that McDonnell was allowed to retain a
large amount of money which should have been
seined and dolivered to Mr. Dacos'.a, representative of
the Bajk of Enaland, in this country.
McDonnell, it is said, m tde affi lavit, embodying his
knowledge of tho caso, an l sent it to Dacosti, who
laid the matter before the District Attorney. The list
•f charges were prepared by tho Assistant District At
torney, and forwarded to Police Commissioner, Du-
cnyer.

The Kiowas are in such a condition
as promiso good results. The Commission says the
delight of the Indiana on the restoration of their
chief was expressed in extravagant ections, including
tho hu-_'ging of the Governor, whom they now
look upon a3 among their best friend?. In
consideration cf tne favor, they say they will rigidly
comply with the terms of the rclca39. The Commis
sioner male a demand of the Comacches, tho neigh- j rj~ on 7
bor.-» of tho Kiowas, to deliver np fivo of the Coman
che* who bad been raiding ia Texas. Tho Chiefs to
this demurred, saying that to arrest thea? men would
occasion serious, if not armed res.stance, in tho tribe.
They also objected to pointing on’ th3 men in order
that they might be arrested by United Mates troops,
saying this would be the samo-ia effret as if the Co
manche chiefs themselves had made the arrests. The
Commissioner then reminded them of their treaty
obligation to do such things as that which he new re
quired, and warned them that he would give them
thirty days to consider the matter. If they, at tin ox-
piration of that time, continued to refuse, he would
withhold from them the rations and other supplies
premised in the tn aty they had broken. Soon after ibis
threat the chiefs said they would deliver to tbe
government five other Iodians of their tribe who were
now raiding in Texas. To this the commissioners
made no objection, and tbe chiefs furnished scouts to
accompany a detachment of troops in pursuit
of the raiders. It is considered a good point
gained by the government that these Indians have
at last acknowledged their obligations and show a
disposition to carry them out.
