CARLEY, DUCK & CO. * TO TEW pern I?. Atlanta, October 30,18' 3. Io order to set at ret the vague report* respecting the defalcation of my ion as Money Order Clerk in tbe ! Atlanta Po*t-offiee, I co-v present the following facta: S Since the first of October the receipts of money or- j der funds from varit.us c ffices, Lave been greatly in- I creased—embracing tlicufands cf dollars, all of which \ iucrcased temptation to steal and fbe to parts at pres ent unknown. The careful and laborious exuniuatioa of tho Money-Order Bocks of this office, under the super vision of special agent P. H. Woodward, disclotes the fact that within a few days past, $6,000 was abstiacted and an attempt made to covers portion of this deficit by one false entry, and a failure to give credit for other moneys received, which, when added, made $C,0C 0. To yen, gentle reader, I elsim this less as belonging to myself and family, and'like a former misfortune from this same cause as I met that loss, I will meet this by slicing my property for the payment cf every dollar to the rost-office Beyartment. This is the money view cf the ca;e, but society has THE OPENING A? DeGIVE'S. ! The announcement that John T. Ford—a nam e non pareil in tho theatrical world—would open DeGivc’s Opera House, was a guarantee full and absolute that aa entertainment fitting to the beautiful Temple adorned to Tecelve it» would bo presented. But Done were prepared for tho auperb spectacular drama that burst upon us last night. Tho scenic effects were better by far than wa imagined could bo produced upou any Georgia stage, being exquisite in tone and bewildering. Mr. Ford must have brought several car leads cf scennry and traps, and none should miss seeing the re sults he has produced. While ihe play it- self pretend* to no very high merit, it ia a fit, setting a number of wonderful and enjoyable characters, and hundreds of most ludicrous and strik ing c ffi cts. Did not think that any plan of sotting down oases would remedy the matter much. If ary change was rua le, lot parties rot down such cases as they choose, iu future, and let the remaining cases 'ake their chances on the cad of tbo dockets. Judge Collier read tho plan proposed by him seif which he had reduced to writing. CoL R. Arnold read a resolution which was exactly the same, wiih the motion offered by Col. Glenn. Ho thought it very necessary to have some system of set ting cases for trial. He thought a committee of three ought to bo ap pointed weekly, to set cases for trial. Capt. Julius L. Brown moved that the committee suggested by CoL Glenn meet Friday evening. Capt. Jackson thought that the committee would have ample time to report by to-morrow evening. Capt. Brown withdrew his motion. Col. Glenn's motion was put and carried. Maj. Hillyor read a plan, suggested by himself, which he wished the committee to consider.
