*Th?Vr.flvefeton Commercfdt deni port of its suspension. Macon (Miss.) Beacon: "A negro child three years oM was locked up in a cabin and starved to death by her parents at Allen Blew- itt’s York place. The child had been dead three days when found. The parties are now in .’ail in Macon.” Montgomery (Ala.) Advertiser, October 2d: • It was reported this morning that Mr. Pat liaglond, Secretary of State, died at his home ' in bcottsboro', Jackson connty, ye.,terdnv, of _jjoc.ir.onla. lie has been absent from the nearly all the summer and fall.” ^^^Rlaha-see Floridian: General John Tyler, son of the late President of the United States, and bearing the same name, was on Sin day morning first baptized and then duly confirmed as a member of the church. This result, doubtless, will be hailed by the friends ci Mr. Tyler everywhere with intense satis- 1 faction. . icksburg Herald, October 21: Gen Adel- : hart Ames passed through the city yesterday on route to Jackson to manipulate his little Legislature. The hopes of Adelbert are cen tered in that body, and if they so arrange it f.s to postpone the election until 1874, Mr. Ames will again find the climate of Missis sippi too unhealthy for his little sick baby. 5enison News report of an occurrence at Bose Hill Texas: “It seems that a feud had existed between two neighbors living near that place, whose names we did not learn and that one of them called on tho other to talk the matter over, and if possible drop it afterwards. Words ran high, when one of them drew a pistol and fired twice, both shots taking effect in his antagonist's head. The murderer then tied, bnt was hotly pursued by two brothers of the murdered man, who, on overtaking him a few miles from the place of difficulty, riddled his body with buck snot, causing bis instant death.” Weston (Ya.) Democrat: “On Friday the wife of George Brown, a colored man residing in this place, gave birth to a child. On the Sunday following, probably 18 hours af ter the occurrence narrated above, she gave birth to another. This is said to bo one of t.hc most remarkable cases on record, ar.d a parallel for it has not been known in this re gion. A still more singular occurrence is the fast that a lady residing in Ritchie county, aged eighty-three years, a few days ago became a mother. Her husband is seventy-seven ' years old. Her youngest child, before the j coming of the last one had children married, and they had children.” New Orleans Picayune, October 21 : The scene yesterday afternoon ou the streets lead ing from the court house to the parish prison was one oi great excitement—crowds running hither and thither on the lookout for the Bur gesses, shouting and hallooing —was an unu sual occurrence in tbi3 city. A snnad of po lice to the number of sixty escorted the pair of accused Irom the court room, and notwith standing their efforts to preserve order, the crowd hurled stones at the criminals Burgess. It is seldom that so much feeling bos been displayed in any case, and the trembling Knees of the accused gave evidence of their wholesome fear of the future. Union Record, Union Parish, Li.: “Last Wednesday night, daring the progress of the entertainment given by the cornet band, jnst when the performance bad reached the height of interest, the audience was suddenly start led by the sharp report of a pistol and a cry of agony from some one on the gallery m front of the building. It was at first sup posed that a murder tad either been com mitted or attempted, and for a few minutes the wildest excitement ensued. Upon inves tigation it was ascertained that Mr. Andrew <Jooper, a worthy young gentleman residing five miles east of this place, had dropped his i pistol, which, the hammer striking the edge I of the gallery, was discharged, and, tho ball entering the abdomen of the unfortunate young man, caused almost instant death.” Lynchburg Virginian: “We have been in- tomed, and our information comes from a very reliable source, that Rev. Dr. Munsey, whose reported unfortunate mental condition has been alluded to in our columns, appeared before the Holston Conference of tue Metho dist- Episcopal Church Soaih, in session at Marion last week, and, having satisfied the Conference of hi3 restoration to health and perfect capability for the discharge of minis terial duties, he was requested to preach in that place on Sunday evening. He complied with the request, and delivered an able and impressive sermon to a very large audience. This intelligence is very gratifying to us, and we feel confident it will be gladly received by the many friends of this able divine, wbere ever his name and eminent services in the Ghristiao ministry aro known.” New Orleans Picayune: “The great efforts made to divert the Texas trade to St. Louis fcy ’ail have met with a prompt response from cor merchants. The impression which had gained considerable circulation that it was im possible to ship on through bills of lading freight from the interior of Texas, had caused many to send products by rail to St Louis.
