lie must have had * a residence of ods year, next prs-
oeding the day of his election, in the District where
the candidate offers, * * to make him eligible to
election. Section 1,690 of the Code says
Jcile of every person of fall age and laboring under
no dieaV.iiity, is tbe place where the family of the
person shall permanently reside, If in this State.”
In J.1 Kelly, pace 171, our Supremo Court ruled on | u^iTnVu the court..'
this point, sed reversed the ru ing of the Judge^be
low, w. o charged thr» .j iry that if thepereon had gone |
from c-r.e county to another, intending to make that
county hit home, t .at the latter county was his resi
dence, notwithstanding h's family had never been
remeved. This would seem to be coneluaive on the
point. Now to the application: It is said that Colonsl
D.*bnej 'e family are, aud always have been, at least
for a nnmb*r of years, residents of Fulton county.
If this is ro, would not the experiment of electing
i .>,onti Dabney be ha/.irdoua ? If he is eligible, there
is no one In the District that I would more cheerfully
support; but I want to bo sure we are right before we
go ahead. Suppose he should be elected over a Rad
ical and his seat should be contested, would it not be
probable that he woald bo ousted and a vacancy be
d -dared, even if we escape the fate of having his
beaten opponent sested in hie stead?

Remarkable.
It seems remarkable that all of virtue and
intagriry of the press of ffic-oigia should bo
center <1 in the Atlanta Ncwh and two or
three othr. r Journals that have been fierce in
liifcir attack!* on H. I. Kimball. We have long
L-n of tbe opinion that tbe “fourth estate”
in ti i-; State were a set of gentlemen and
labored for tbe p’ood of our people, and w*
r - 'p l tb it the over virtuous News has dis-
po led this happy r< flection. While we know
2iT>thing about Mr. Kimball except published
nUtaiuents, yet we thought we were honest in
oar view in regard to him, until we learned
we were “subsidize V by the wholesale attack
' • thi# Atlanta *<ntincl upon the watchtower.
Il we are to share the brunt of this attack,
we shMild bke to have some of tbe “emola-
mentN” which the News intimates have been
lavish!v scattered aronnd, ewpecially in
*e hard times
But nerionsly we do object to this wholesale
Lufle of paper* who fail to agree with the
ws, and if it wants to fight Kimball or any
' cl«e, all righ*, but don’t impugn the mo-
» >a of oth&iH who are squally as honest in
ir views as any ot tho News crowd, and
. ;<> certainly have as much interest in the
utfare of Georgia as this new paingon of vir-
ae. — Griffin Aetc*.

It ia strange yet tr*e, that as a rule It la the bright

makes them slaves, beclouds their mlr.ds, ruins their

everybody dtspises them—to such an extent that so
ciety has no charms, but thanks to the giver cf all
