[Charleston News and Conrier.]
Considerable excitement was caused in this
city, yesterday, by a romantic suicide which
occurred about three o’clock in the morning,
in Queen street. As soon as the dead body
was brought in, a coroner’s jury was summon
ed and an inquest held, which developed the
following facts: The deceased was a young
man, named Wm. J. Oxner, about twenty-
two years old, who hails from Wmnsboro,
S. C. * Ho was in love with a young lady of this
city, the daughter of a well-known citizen. It
sec-ms that Oxner met and was introduced to
the lady while she \yis on a visit in Winns-

A PREMEDITATED ACT.
The only evidence relative to the motives

The present Congress contains a good deal
of the worst material that could be found any
where, and the people will make a great mis
take if they do not reject it this tail. Not to
go outsido of Michigan, is not a bold asser
tion to mj that a majority of the present
Congressional delegation are not the best
n.*e-i who could be helectod to represent the
people. Most of them will be able to bring
themselves up for re-election; but does not
necos8a|iIy followjthat the people mats soleot
them because tb»*y have obtained the endorse
ment of party backs and party managers.— Dt-
