vail so largely, stid there are many thousands of
cases there. What a vast percentage of life would be
saved if consumptives were asea.-iiy alarmed in re
gard to taking fresh cold as they are about scarlet
fever, small pox. etc. But they are not. 1 hey take
what they term a little cold, which they aro ered-
u'ous enough to believe will vear off in a few days.
They pay no attention to it, and hence it lays the
foundation for another and another still, until the
lungs are diseased beyond all hope for cure.
My advice to persons whose lungs ore affected even
slightly is, to lay ir|a stock of iSchenck’s Pulmonic
Syrup. 8enenekw Seraweod Tonie and Schcnck’s Man
drake Pills and go to Florida. I recommend these
particular medicines bbcauso I am thoroughly ac
quainted with their action. I know that where they
are used in strict acoordance.with my. direct ions they
will do the work that is required- This accompl.-hod,
na'.nre will do the rest. The physic’au who pre
scribes for cold, cough or nigh-.sweats, and then ad
vises the patient to walk or rids out every day, will
be sure to have a corpse on his hands before long.
Mv i Ian is to give my three medicine-’, in necord-
da-ce with the printed directions, except in_ tome
cases where a freer use of the Mandrake Pills is nec
essary. My object is to give tone to the stomach—to
get up a good appetite. It'S always a good sign when
a patient begins to grow hungry. I navo hopes o x
such. With a relish for food nod the gratification o
that relish cornea good blood, and with it more flesh
which is closely followed by a healing of the lungs.
Then the cough lovsens and abates, the creeping chills
and clammy night rweat no longer prostrate and
annoy, and the patient gets well, provided he avoids
taking cold' . ,
Now there are many consumptives who have not
the means to go to Florida. The question may be
a-ked. is there no hope forsuch? Certainly there is.
My advice to such is and ever has been. ,tq stay in a
w -rm room during tho win'er. with a temptra’ure of
about seventy degro s. which shculdibakept regularly
attaat point, by means of a thermometer. Let such
a patient tako his cxerci’c within the limits of the
room by walking up andldown astnuch vsbi* strength
will permit, in orde- to keep up a healthy circulation

Ayer's Cherry Pectoral*
For Diseases of the Throat and Longs, |
such as Coughs, Colds, V7hooping
Cough, Bronchitis, Asthma,
and Consumption.
Probably never before to the whole history of
medicine, has anything won so widely mid so deeply
upon the confidence of mankind,asthisexcellent
remedy for pulmonary complaints. Through along
enriei of years, and among most of tho races of
men it has rfsen higher anf higher in their esUma-
tion, as it has become better known. Its uniform
character and power to euro the yarious affections
of the lungs and throat, have made it knownas a ro-
liable protector against them. While adapted to
milder forms of disease and to young children, it is
at the same time the most effectual remedy that can
be given for incipient consumption, ana the dan
gerous affections of tbe throat and lungs. As a pro
vision against sudden attacks of Croup, it should
be kepton hand in every family, and indeed as all
am sometimes snbject to colds and coughs, all
should be provided with this antidote for thraa.
Although settled Consumption is thonght in
curable, still great numbers of cases where the dis
ease seemed settled, have been completely cured,
and the patient restored to sound health Tiy the
Cherry Pectoral. So complete is its mastery
over the disorders of the Lungs and Throat, that
toe most obstinate of them yield to it. When noth
