The crowd then dispersed, and at

followed, every delegate declaring he
would stay there till forcibly thrown out.
By eight a’clock the regulars had all
worked up to the situation, and at 8:30

He appealed to them to disperse,
and told them if they wonld go ont be
wonld protect them in all their rights. A
delegate asked what he meant by pro

When tho convention was regularly as

the Mayor it it was true he had posted
blue-ooated policemen in the corridors
and locked the doors to prevent egress

any ouo could go out who chose.”
“Can they come in again ?” acted Mo-

“No, sir,” ieplied the Mayor.
“rheD,” said McDavitf, *‘we rtfaso to

with a passionate peal of applause.

IT IS POOR POLICY
For any retail merchant to soli Inferior
goods bccanso lio can mako
raoro money on them.
Instead of tarying to ilnd tho cheapest
that can bo bought, ho should always
, select THE BEST in tho market.
We know of no business anywhere, in the
city or country, that would not sooner becomo
permanently established, and in the long run
pay better, by handling only fair and honest
goods. To be sure, custom may for a while
bo allured by low prices into the purchase
of Inferior and adulterated articles; many
evert take up vrltli short weight and other
swindling; but tiino rights all these
things, and nothing Is more certain than that
