Poet Gibson, September S4-—There
hare been six hundred fever cases to date,
and one hundred death*. The fever is in

twenty new cases, ampng them was the

Yesterday there were seven deaths—
one from the country.
The Vicksburg Howards to-day sent
the eteamer Kate Dickson to Greenville,
conveying doctors and nurses, and con'
tributious of money, ice and provisions.

that visiting physicians are going

The fever is reported at Delta, Louisi
ana, three miles below Vicksburg.

Watse Valley, September 21.—The
fever is epidemio hero. There have been
twenty-five cases and seven deaths since
Thursday. Supplies aro needed.

Kinlooh Falconer, Secretary of State of
Mississippi, died yesterday. The fever
is on the increase. There were f jrty-one
new cases yesterday and five deaths. The
doctors have organized a board of health
with Lr. Gourrier, of New Orleans, pres
ident, and Dr. Bailey secretary.

timely and general beneficence, I return
you our profound thanks for the noble
response that yon have sent to our appeal
for help. I have thereby been enabled
to answer promptly every call fiom ten
places in the State where the fever is
prevailing, and with the funds on hand
and now coming, will doubtless ba able
to meet every demand until the close of
the epidemic.

Alsu phis, September 24.—The hope
that the fever was abating was dispelled
by the reports of yesterday. At the
Howard headquarters there was one con-
ticuous call for nursee. The Board of
Health reported sixty-four deaths for the
twenty-four hours ending at six o’clock
lut night—a great increase over the
previous day, when thirty-three were re
ported.

of steamer Blanche Porter, sent from
New Orleans, with physicians, nurses and
supplies for Greenville, which points he
will reach at five p. to. to-monow.

Dr. Adams and ten nurses leave in the
morning for Holly Springs.

New Oelsans, September 24.—Cap-
tiia Norman H. Bent, master of the ship
Annie Goudey, which arrived yesterday,
reports that on tho 4th of September he
fell in with tho schooner Ealalic.of Shel
burne, Nova Scotia, which was dismasted
in a hurricane on the 3d of September,
and took oil five of the crew. Tho cap
tain and mate could not get off, as the
wind had increased to a heavy gcle. He
saw another dismasted vessel at the
same time, apparently a brig, with her
spars hanging alongside, but coaid ren
der no assistance, os it was blowing
heavy and the ship was on a leo shore,
wiln all her eail3 blown away.

Forte yesterday received a telegram from

sisting upon a prompt surrender of the
territory ceded to that country by tho

Dayton, Ohio, September 24.—Payne,
Holden & Co., blank books and stationery,

Memphis, September 24.—From noon
yesterday to noon to-day there were fifty-
six deaths. John Fenwick, Felix Gilmar-
tin, Z. P. Oliver and T. F. McCall are
among the dead. Dr. Fuerke, of Cin
cinnati, is among the new cases. Hr.
Julias Wise, goes to Martin, Tennessee,
to attend saveral oases there.
Canton, Miss.. September 24—Twen
ty-three cases and one death are reported
for the past twenty-four hours.
Washington, September 24.—The Sec-
retsry of War having received informa
tion that the Howard Association of New
Orleans has soma two hundred and sixty
thousand dollars on hand and is not in
need of funds to relieve fever sufferers
there, has ordered an investigation of the
matter and suspended his order of li3t
week to issue forty thousand additional
rations for ths relief of persons suffering
front fever.

death of Dr. Kibbee is officially announc
ed. Dr. Morley, the fever specialist, is

is iu a fourth relapso and is not expected
to live through the day. Two more of

day. Fifty-eight deaths and one hundred _
and thirty-nine now cases.

Hon. Addison Laflin, ex-member of Con
gress, and naval officer of New York dur
ing tho Grant administration, committed
suicide here to-day by hanging.
Washington, September 24.—Colonel
William H. McArdle, of Mississippi, who
has been here for some time to solicit
aid for the fever sufferers, has, at the
request of a number of MississippianB,
consented that his name be used as a
candidate for Secretary of State in Mis-

Democratic State Convention of Nevada
yesterday adopted the bard money plat
form, and also a resolution advocating
the lomoval of all restrictions on silver.
Gov. Bradley, the present incumbent,
was again nominated, J. M. Adams for
Lieutenant Governor, and W. E. T. Deal
for Congress.
Richmond, September 24.—In the third
district the Greenbackers have nomina
ted CoL W. W. Newman in opposition to
Gen. Joseph E. Johnston.
Detboit, September 24.—The standing
committee of the Dioceso of Michigan
have decided not to call a special conven
tion for the election of a successor to
Bishop McCoskey. The matter will be
left open till June.
Chicago, September 24.—Col. Miles
telegraphs Sheridan that six Indiana from
Sitting Bull have arrived at Fort Keogh

Hartford, Ct., September 24.—At
the Republican convention, Colonel Hoyt,
temporary chairman, and Stephen W.
Kellogg, permanent chairman, made
speeches unequivocally favoring hard
money. Charles B. Andrews was nomi
nated for Governor by acclamation, David
Galiett, Lieutenant-Governor; David Tor
rence, Secretary of State, and Talmadge
Baker, Treasurer.
The platform demands that the bonds
and legal tenders be paid in the standard
money of the world, and that all currency
be redeemable iu coin at the will of the
holder, and coin and currency be kept at
>ir with the gold standard of the world.

burg dispatch says “the supposition that
an understanding exists between Russia
end Afghanistan is declared, ia well in
formed quarters, to be purely imaginary,

The race for the great eastern handicap
at New Market was won by Hack Thorpe;
Warrior second, and Malay third.
New Yoes, September 24.—Steamer
Corcudelet, from Havana, reports that on
September 11 she fell in with a water
logged and dismasted brig in latitude
29:40, longitude 40:40, The steamer
hove to and took off the brig’s entire
crew, consisting of nine persons. She
proved to be tho brig Sallie Brown,
Pressy, master, from Pensacola for Santos
Brazil, with a cargo of yellow pine.
Havana, September 24.—The English
eteamer has arrived from St. Thomas,
September 37. Seven purchasers from
Cuba will carry away upwards of half a
million of dollars worth of goods. Ad
vices from Santo Domingo confirm tho
success of the revolutionists, the capitu
lation of Gonzales and his departure on
tho second inst. for Curocoa. The insur
rectionists entered Santo Domingo on the
same day when the provisional govern
ment was organized, the Jacinto De Castro
being its President. The electoral col
leges have been oid9ted to convene on tho
fifth to elect a president. General Lu-
peron is the most popular candidate.
Tho confirmation has aleo been re-
C3ived of the reports of the damage by
tho hurricane in Hayti, at Port au
Prince. There was much damage,
mostly by the rain, which fell in tor

Chicago, September 24.—In the case
of J. Watson, Indicted for tho unlawful
selling of ihilroad tickets, Judges McAl
lister and Mcoro yesterday held that tho
law under which he wes indicted is good,
and that the State can protect the peoplo
against speculators in railroad tickets.
The deoision complies with the decision
rendered by Judge Farwell some time
ago. The railroads have directed that all
scalper’s offices be ‘‘pulled” and the of
fenders arrested.
