Washington, Ott. 25 —Notice is given
by the Light Honse Board that on and
after December 1st, a fixed red light of
the sixth order, lighting the entire hori
zon, will be exhibited from the light
honse zeoently ereoted on Fort Oipley
Shoal, between Sonth Channel and Folly
Island Channel, in Charleston harbor,
South Carolina. The light abonld be
seon in clear weather about twelve miles.
Upon the establishment of this light,
the one at Castle Pinoknay will be discon
tinued.

tain, who was supposed to have been lost

Lewis, deck hand; Captain John
Walmsley. of Ceoil ooanty, Md., passen-
gei; and Wm. Gant, cook.
There were six females on board, and
all were lost. They were Mrs. M. A. Ba
con, Bacon's Wharf, St. Marys county
Mrs, Bandolph Jones, St. Marys county;
Mrs. Tarleton and infant, St. Inigoos, St,
Marys county; Matilda, a colored cham
ber maid; Chios Dyson, a colored pas
senger; a colored woman named Thomas,
from Lancaster Wharf, and a passenger.
The male passengers lost were Henry
Uiiman, Baltimore, drowned; Mr. Levs-,
tine, Baltimore, a peddhr, and Dr. Bunoh
St. Marys county.
Washington, October 25.—John Keen
er and Alexander Klutz were appointed
revenue storekeepers for the Sixth North
Carolina District.
The State department advices report
the Mexicans and Indians raiding near
Wilson’s ranche, Texas. They killed

reports of troubles at political meetings

there, but it was agreed that nothing

ment while the judicial processes of the
United States Courts are not resisted, and
it is acknowledged they are not.

Boston, October 25.—Hartwell, the
conductor who was charged with having
caused the accident at WoIIa-ton, on the
Old Colony railroad, is adjudged guilty
or manslaughter, and held for trial in
December. Engineer Harlbnt, of the
freight train, is adjadged guilty of gross
negligence, while the engineer of the ex
cursion train,it is declared,was not a suit
able porson to have charge of a train, as
he was not familiar with the track,
switches, etc.
Nzw York, October 25.—The Fenian
Brotherhood, in annual convention, abol
ished the office of head centre, the duties
of which will cow devolve upon a general
secretary.

Bichmond, October 25.—In the Uni-
ted States Circuit Court to-day, Judge
Bond declined to allow tho Dutch bond
holders to be made patties defendant to
the suit of tho Atlantic, Mississippi and
Ohio railroad, as trustees are acting for
them, as well as for the English stock
holders. He stated, however, thatshonld
occasion ariso necessitating an appeal,
the petitions would then bo considered
parties for that purpose. Jndgo Hughes
dissented, thlokisg the petitioners ought
to bb made parties cow. The opinion of
J idge Bend,however, stands. The Coart
next took up the motion snbmitted by
the trustees and English bondholders for
the foreclosure of the mortgage and sale
of the road.

Cincinnati, Ootober 25.—Two freight
trains ooliided near Qiallone, Kentuoky,

Regarding the application for an in
junction against the issue of the two
million loan for the completion of the
Cincinnati Southern Ktilroad, the Supe
rior Court decided the loan constitutional,
and the bonds legal, and refused to grant
tbe injanotion.
Chattanooga Ootober 25.—Deaths,
W. T. Morger. City Beoorder, and two
colored persons. Four new cases, of
which, three are colored. Mayor Car
lisle’s condition is unimproved. The
weather is warm and unfavorable.
Mobile, October 25.—For the list

one death.
Madrid, Ociober 25.—As tbe King
was driving through tbe street known as
the Calls Mayor, this evening, a nun in
a blouse fired a pistol at him. The King
was nnbnrt, and continned on his way to
the palaoe, amid the acclamations of the
crowd. Tbe assailant was immediately
s-izad by soldiers and taken to prison.
Liverpool, October 25.—Th s week’s
ciroular of tne Liverpool Cotton Brokers’
Association, says cotton was dull, with a
declining tendency, and quotations were
generally reduced. American was gen
erally inanimate, and was freely supplied
at i pence to i pence decline. In Sea
Island the 8ales were very small, at un
changed prices. Fatures depressed. The
fluctuations were slight, and prices giad-
uully declined 4 cent to 5-32 pence.

ident has annonnoed Edwin M. Sheppard

Chicago, October 25.—Special Treas
ury agent Hinder, this morning, seized
a mail package containing 923 precious
stones mailed from Ceylon to Keoknk,
Iowa. The package contains some very
valuable jewels, including 696 moonstones
and a semi-sacred gem of India. Tcey
have been turned over to appraiser Ham
for valuation.
Lang3ton, Jamaica, October 24?—The
negroes who contributed largely to tha
insurrection in Santa Crnz were emi
grants from the Baroadoes, whose time
of service had expired and who could not
obtain their moniy out of the savings
batiks, which was insolvent, and who
were refused passports because they
would not re-engage with the planters for
another year unless they were paid ton
dollars a head, the regnlar fee being
thirty-three cents only. The failures of
Cottam, Morton &Co., of Loudon, and
the manufactured agent, Hengh, Balfour
& Co., of Manchester, seriously affected
this Island. The former have nineteen
olantatioDS here, all of which have, in a
l arge measure, stopped cultivation and
the circulation of money.

Augusta, October 25 —The Belief
Committee sent one hnodred dollars to
the Howard Association of Memphis to
day. Augusta has contributed over
$8,000 to tbe sufferers.
‘Providence, October 25.—Esther Ca
hill, while insane, threw a lighted lamp
at Father Bogers, a Catholic clergyman
at Bristrol for announcing his inability
to relieve her from pain. The room waB
fired and the reverend gentleman serf
ously injured. His clothing w^a sot on
fire and his head badly cat. He escaped
by jumping into a cistern.
Camp Bohinson, October 25.—Compa
nies A and D, of the Third Cavalry, nn-
der command of Captain J. B. Johnson,
captured one hundred and fifty Cheyennes
under Dnll Knife on Tuesday.
The hostiies first showed fight bat af
terwards yielded and were brought into
Major Carlton’s campon Cbadroneoreek,
where they were disarmed and tbeir stock
taken away.
A courier from Chadrone creek this af
ternoon reports that when the hostiies
were informed that tbeir destination eras
Camp Bobinson, they refused to go, and,
scattering over the prairie, .commenced
digging rifle pits with their hunting
knives. They appeared to have rifles se
creted, which they secured, having given
np only a few old gans and revolvers.
Artillery has been sent from here to
shell them from tbeir positions should
they continue resistance.
Considerable exntement prevails over
anticipated trouble.
New York, Ociober 25.—The Evening
Telegram reports that the steamship City
of Houston, which left New York on tbe
19th of this month for GalvestoD, Texas,
foundered off Frying Pan shoals on the
231 daring tho fearfal gale of that day.
