do not empanell them on the jury, the
Ctoaen of Georgia are doing some lirely
tkirniahing to aroid this irksome doty.
Action has been taken by the Colnmhna

to far as heard from other'departments
*re reported to be moving in the matter,
■fae firemen of our city are opposed to
siting on the jnry and they even go so
f« m to say that if they are compelled to
M*[orm this work the Macon Depart
ment will be sacrificed, as they do not
think they can possibly serve the Bute
in both the capacity of fireman and juror.
One thing aeema certain, the efficiency of
the Department would be to some extent
impaired, at Ieaat for a time. ^ «
The qoeation la one of the problems
wbiob our Legislature will be called on to
solve at the next session of the General
Assembly, and wbat the deoiaion will be
canaot uo* be known. The exemption,
while it will be moat gratifying to the fire
men, will deprive the Stale of a Urge num

fjslem baa been working well. It has
needed ont many old reguUrs and profes
sional*. who hung around the oonrt bouse
end jet nud to think that not only the
ehaira of the jury box were tbelr special
property, but the eourt house as wall.
List evening at the engine house of
Protection No. 1, the officers of the Ma

that the obj*ct of the meeting was the
introduction of a bill in the Legislature
at its approaching session to exempt the
firemen from jury duly, and for such
otner mature as may be deemed necee-
rary. Some discussion followed. Amotion
tos made that the Chief and Aseistant
Engineers of tho Department be ap

Representatives of Bibb county in

daring tho session of the Legislature to
give any additional information as to the
wishes of the firemen; and that the Ma
con Department co-operate with all the
other departments of the State.
Alter debate the motion was unanimous
ly passed.

Water Works.
The efty is becoming quite interested
on tbe anbjeot of water works. Eitl
mates are being made as to the probable
oost of s system oi water works, which
will supply its wants.
The plan whioh is looked upon with
most favor is to bring Ute water ' from
the Oemulgee river from a point some
seven or eight milee above the city, Sn
large iron pipes.to a reservoir located on
college hill, and supplied by a powerful
steam engine, and from this point dis
tribute about the sity. The design is
that tho water works be inaugurated

A Hopeless Sufferer Cured by

H & Bxzvxxs. Bfq—
Dear fir—Thinking that a statement of my
case may meet the eye or soma one suffering
from Scro ula. I beg you to publish the following,
whlcu 1 cheerfully furnish ot my own free will.
I hive been afflicted with Scrofulous H»mor
from my birth, and at times very badly. When
about six years old the disease made its appear
anoe on my head, and it .was deemed advitable
to have the hair shaved, but they were obliged
to cut it off with embroidery scissors, as my
head was so sore I could net have it shaved.
After we had succeed, d in heal! g the sores on
tbe outside they broke, but on the inside, caus
ing me great pam. There have been times when
th] surface of my hands was all raw from tbe
elleet.of this humor, and no pen can describe the
great suffering I have endured.
About three years aco small kernels made
their appearance on tha cords of my neck, sev
eoa! of which grew into quite large tumors, and
nothing which we could use would remtve
them My whole system was so full or tcrofu-
Ions humor that it seemed ready to burst
through tbe skin at all parts of my body, and I
was in a terrible weak and feeble condition.
Tbe tumor* on my neck had grown to such a
sire as to disfigure me badly. When in this
hopeless condition I was advised by a friend ta
try the Vegetine. and I at onoe comma: red tak
ing it, and after t Aid used it a short time the
tumors ocmmecced discharging, and I do not
think that 1 overestimate tbe quantity irom
each tumor when I tay that agood-sized teacup
ful of oonruption ran out, alter which they com
menced to heal up and disappear, and now my
neck is ssimooth and free from bunches as any
lady’s.
1 relieve the Vegetine has entirely cleansed
every taint ot scrofula from my system, and I
desire to have this statement published so that
other suffe-ers may find relief, as they surely
will do. ir they try the Ve etine.
It will afford me pleasure to give anv farther
