Clfl FINANCES.
More Gbanses Desired.
The opponents of tho new bill before
the Legislature are etill dissatisfied with
in it* present form. They desire the
bands ta fall due at different dates.
Those friendly to the bill urge that this
will destroy the entire scheme. The ob-
jaot of the oreition of tho liberal float
ing debt fond Is to enable the Commis
sion to bay in tbe bonds from time to
time as they are able, and, in tbis way*
they will purchase them in all prob
ability at less than their faoe valne,
bnt, by the other plan, when they fall
due they would have to b* redeemed at
their full faoe value. Tbe long dates
wonld, it is urged, be unsaleable on ac
count of everybody wauling the short
dates, the percentage being the same.
Another objection raised i* to the
Mayor and Chairman of the Finance
Committee being caembcth cf the Commis.
aioD, anl in reply it is stated that their
membership will be a mutual benefit to
both in keeping all well posted in the
workings and wants of both.
In case tho Mayor and chairman ot the
Committee are exoladed, it is desired that
the refunding bonds bs signed by the
chairman of the commission instead of
the Mayor ot the city. It is not likely
the amendments sought will be adopted
by those in oharge of the bill. in which
case the amendments desired will be for-

reporting the condition ot the crop* in
the county of Macon, eubmit the follow
ing:
The orop of corn in eome portions of
county has been injured by the drought,
and in other portions the crop is equal
to, if not more, than last year. All
things considered, we believe tbat
there has been a sufficiency made to
meet the requirements of the county. As
there has been but little corn shipped
to the county for the past year for con
sumption, we are of the opinion that we
will reqnire bnt little, if any, to earry on
tbe farming operations for the incoming
year. As compared with corn, the cot
ton in eome localities is small but healthy,
having suffered from drought But with
favorable seasons ths county may real z
an average crop. The crop of oats aid
wheat, we consider from 10 to 15 pei
cent, leas than last year, and of an aver
age crop. We are pleased to note the
improved'condition of the planting in
terests generally, especially of the stock
of horse and mule colts. We also note
with pleasure the genius displayed by
oar people ia improved machinery.
