The terms were $20,000 caso, and tho balance in three, six, nine and twelve months. An acoidental fire nt tr.o warehouses of the Wilmington Compressing Company destroyed 1,300 bales of cotton. Their new bydranlic Taylor presses wero badly damaged. Williams & Murchison, Mech- ner & Catder, and tbe Lilly Brothers are losers in the order named. Tho total loss is $100,000, fully insured. Indianapolis, October 1.—John Ferd- uotl, u German, killed his divoioad wife by stabbing her fifteen or twenty times with a taunei’s knife, and afterwards committed .-me.do. Washington, October 1.—Tha Divis ion Superintendents of the railway mail sesvice to-day adopted a resolution sug gesting that the Postmaster General isstre an order instructing Postmasters in the 1st, 21 and 31 class offices to em brace within their post-office clamps hoars of mailing and receipt of letters in order that delays may bo more readily traced. It was determined that each Di vision Superintendent should conduct the compilation of the list of local names of post-offioes in tbe several di visions and forward to tho general office for final arrangement. A resolution was adopted requesting the issuance of a gen eral order to Postmasters directing them, in all oaee3 where complaint io made af fecting delays in tho delivery of letlcrp, to obtain, if passible, tho envelopes cov ering sncli letters, and note on them the date and boar of receipt at ths post- offiaeand of delivery to the person ad dressed, and to forward them to tho Di vision Ssparintendent of the railway mail service for his information and ac tion. The propriety and feasibility in tbe Government owning its own postal cars was considered, and the views of each of tho Superintendents were tx pressed, tho sentiment of the majority being against the proposition. Ter., October 1.— Information was brought in from the sack and feed agency that a fight had taken place Satmday between a party of twelve desperadoes and a party of sol- diers from Fort Sill, resulting in the kill ing of nine bandits and three soldiers. It ts expected that tha troops will kill or scatter the band, as they haTO orders to remain two months longer in the field if neo-ssary. Cincinnati, October I.—The fireman’s tournament was opened ibis morning by a grand parado of visiting companies who were escorted by tho Cincinnati depart ment through several of tho principal streets of tbe city. All incoming trains brought great numbers who came not only to witness tbe parade, but to visit the exposition also. The*weather is ail that could be de. sired, cud the throng lining the streets woe so gieat that it was uifficnlt to move abont. Immediately after the parade engines, h02e carriages, etc., were placed on flat cars, and with competing compa nies taken to Chester Park, where at 1:30 tbe tournament commenced. Lsndon, England, October 1.— The Oldham cotton spinners have re plied to the operatives tbat they cannot withdraw the notice of 5 per cent, reduc tion of wages, and deolice the interview asked for by the operatives. The North Wales states that tbe Quarry* men’s Union has declined to givo far ther pecuniary assistance to members desiring to emigrate. St. Petersburg, October 1.—Eleven thousand eight hundred aud fifty persons have been incarcerated in ths Central prison at Mos ow during the summer.
