the Warm Springs reservation. Six citi

To-day eighty volunteers went on the
trail of the ladians. A light is expected
to-morrow. The Indiana attacked a train
eight miles west of Masons last night
and killed thirteen men and one woman.

sissippi Itiver Improvement Convention
yesterday the majority report was dis
cussed. Thc-BO resolutions set forth that
tho improvement of the Mississippi and
its navigable tributaries is of paramount
importance, because the great bulk of
commerce and wealth is centered there.
That while, smea the foundation of the
country, one hundred miilioss have been
expended on rivers and harbors cot one-
tenth of that sum has been spent in the
Miesi-sippi valley.
Th«y favor a reservoir system on the
Waters of the upper Mississippi, whereby
the surplus of a a'or may be stored until
low waist, and then be utilized. Con
gress should prohibit the construction of
private nbaives acd throwiog debris,
cindero, etc., whion may form band bars,
into the Mississippi or its tribuUrle-.
Privato epeoulaiors should not bo allowed
t r profit by the improvements made by the
Government to the detriment of the pub
lio, and oities should not bo allowed to
nsa water power created by the improve
meat of rivers for local manufacturing
and moobunical purposes.
A permanent commission of three rep
resentatives trom each Bute bordering
on the Mississippi river end its navigsble
tributaries should bo appointed by their
governors, to promote the improvement
of eaid rivers for oommeroe so us to best
benefit the whole country.
The President of the convention should
