We learn from tho most reliable sources that the trio of distinguished gen tlomen, who have under consideration the vast interests confided to their keep ing, ato laboring with ths utmost dili gence in the diaoharge of their daties. Theirs is a Herculean task, involving im mense responsibility, the nicest tact, and great experience, integrity end firmness. Happily, the Commissitxurs possess the confidence of the people, and will come as near probably as any other mortals to wards disproving tho shameful postulate of Sir Bobert Walpole, that XVCST MAR HAS HIS TRICK. Up to this time, in response to their demands, every railroad in the South, with ono or two exceptions, has forwarded to the Board complete schedules of their p gaenger fares and freight rates. Upoa them will devolve the delioate task of correcting, remoddelling, or even substi tuting ether tariffs in lieu of those in present operation upon tho several roads. Of coarse, no two schedules can be pre cisely the same, as the length of eaeh thoroughfare, and the amount of busi- nesa.it oontrols form important faotoie in the calculation. What would be large ly remunerative in one instance might be sotualrnin and starvation in another, fdl these points the Commissioners will be forced to decide. Happily for them, ono of their number MB. CAMPB2LL WALLACX i« posaeaaaH ot t»i p«>ouo.i Axoerience in the premises, and is withsl a godly, incorruptible and strictly bonest man. Another, Governor Smith, is learned in the law, sagaoious and every way com. patent. The third, Mr. Barnett, is con ceded to be ona of the most practical and intelligent agriculturists in tho State, and possesses the unlimited confidence of his coustitnenta. If they fail to solve, to the satisfaction of all, the complex rail road question, with its innumerable an tagonisma and diversified interests, then, indeed, the task may be considered im possible. In answer to the inquiry whether TOOLING WOULD BX PBAOTIOABLK, one Commissioner said, that would de pend upon the interests of the pnblio as well as the roads. There might be oases where, without some arrangement of the kind, a weak road would go under to the great detriment of a large community. But the primary object or the Board will be to establish just and equitable rates and prices upou all the railroads. If they do no more than abolish the IHPBQT2B DISCRIMINATIONS between different localities on the same road, of which bo mnoh oomplaint has been made, then will the labors of the oommiBsion be hailed with joy by a grateful people. THE MACON AND BRUNSWICK LEASE AGAIN. Since the date of his laet missive the writer enoouutered Mr. Paine, who, it will be remembered, represented Stanton & Co. at the late abortive attempt to lease this valuable State properly. Mr. P. reiterated tho intention ot the Compa ny to test their title to the lease in the court?, and declared that the law bed been complied with by the tender to the Governor of $176,000 and $500,000 in U. 8. bonds, to confirm the lease.
