3m**ms*l $s Jl?tj«sjs£**g»*r< bap Tear Party. Last evening, at the elegant residence of Mr. Asher Ayres, decidedly the most brilliant and deligHtful party of the se t- son, occurred In the leap year party given by the young ladies of the city. It inclu ded the creme de In creme of Macon so ciety. The toilets were simply elegance and beauty combined, and the ladies never appeared more charming. Among the visiting ladies were Misses Colquitt and Lovejoy, of Atlanta, and Miss Buford, of Kentucky, Mre. Farley of Savannah, aud Miss Wadley of Boling- broke. The party lasted until one o'clock, when all returned from the scenes of en joyment to dream of the happy hours spent together. The very novelty was enjoyed. Well did the young ladies carry out the rolle of the young gentlemen, while the attentions bestowed were received with becoming grace by the gentlemen. The duties of floor managers devolved on Misses Lizzie Plant, Cora Nutting Mattie Ruan and Nettie Dunlap, and never liavc the trying duties of the position been more charmingly discharged. Among tlt« gentlemen present were Mr. tV. G. Solomon, in full dress, violets and hyacinths, Remhert standing collar with satin tie; Mr. George Wadley, resplen dent in full black suit, patent leather dancing slippers; Mr. It. S. Sauls- burv, black suit, white satin tie, arranged a . la pinafore; Mr. A. R. Woodson, fuU dress, heavy watch chain and locket pendent, sprig of hyacinth on lappel; Mr. H. M. North, full suit, immaculate front, lappel relieved with delicate flowers, standing collar and white satin tie; Mr. J. C. Van Syckles, Capoul hangs, Roman gold watch chain aud jewelry, white satin tie and Crown collar, setting off a suit of black; Mr. W. I’. Edwards, one of the popular blondes of the occasion, decorated with an exquisite' boutonniere^ Hr. G. II. Plant, full dress, white tie; Mr. A. R. Schofield, black suit, and tlirec bultou kids; Mr. Frank Rogers, three button kids, heavy garniture of flowers on lappel; Mr. J. P. Fort, full dress broadcloth suit; Colonel B. B. Lewis, Mr. George Payne, Mr. J. S. Saulsbury, Mr. C. M. Nutting, Captain T. L. Ross, Mr. R. W. Patterson, Mr. Joe Bond, Mr. W. H. Woodson and several others were in faultless evening dress, the special points of which time and space prevent particularizing and for this seeming neglect the reporter desires to be pardoned. Dot» About Dranuu aud Dramatists. The latest and a very successful opera is entitled the Pirates of Penzance. Frederick Paulding Is considered a ris ing young tragedian. He will play in At lanta next week. Fanny Davenport played Pique in At lanta last week. Cliff W. Tayleure, the celebrated dra matist and author, is in Cincinnati. Mr. F. C. Bangs remains in Philadel phia, and has greatly improved in health. Mrs. B. Macauly will travel with her husband the balance of the present season. The rumor that Robert McWade has broken up for the season is wholly with out foundation. . . There is said to be fresh trouble in Alice Oates-Tracy-Titus-Watkins Combi nation. - yj>; : Miss Kate Forsyth has made a decided success a» principal support to John Mc Cullough. Ada Cavendish is down in gay New Or gans, where she Is meeting with much encouragement. Sheridan has agreed to go to London with Mr. and Mrs. McKee Rankin to play the “ Parson ” in “ The Danites.” Maggie Mitchell’s Southern totir, like all her other tours, lias been a very successful one. She is way down in Texas. Miss May Croly, who has appeared on the stage with Joe Jefferson and Clara Morris, has retired to her home circle. John T. Raymond says he never drinks nor chews. But the Troy Times declares that he occasionally wrestles with the truth and gets thrown. Tom W. Keen, for his performance of “ Richard III.” at the Boston theatre one night last week, received thirteen calls. That is enthusiasm. An actress in “ Madame Favart’s” in a London theatre threw herself into the arms of an actor with such force that they both rolled upon the stage. Joe Emmett is said to be the most suc cessful man now in the profession. Wher ever he performs crowds flock to hear and see him. Joe Murphy is looking for an author who will write him an Irish play without a soldier, a grasping landlord and liis henchman, ana without a prison scene. Chanfrau is not likely to visit Brattle- boro, Vermont, again. He played there recently to exactly $22. They told him there was a full house for Brattleboro, and Chanfrau says that if tbat was a full house, he doesn’t want to see it sober. If you arc in a theatre when it takes fire on the stage, you have at least seven minutes to spare before smoke or flames will injure anyone beyond the orchestra. Devote this time to picking up watches and wallets—Exchange. Augusta Dargon’s manager, now in Australia, says in a letters “Mr. J. C. Wi'liamson and his charming wife (nee Maggie Moore) are playing to immense houses in ‘II. M. S. Pinafore’ at the Thea tre Royal, Sydney. Miss Moore makes a very piquant ‘Josephine,* while Mr. Wil liamson makes a great feature of tlie ‘Ad miral.’” ' —The Appleton Church Home concert will take place on the 10th proximo.
