Significant ^Pords From a Colored
Republican Source.
The Journal oj Progress, a Republi
can print, edited by R. R. Wright, an in
telligent person of color, in Cutlibert,
Georgia, has this to say of the few white
scalawags who arrogate to themselves all
of the emoluments and party patronage of
the Radicals of Georgia:
The colored people constitute the Re
publican party in the South, and the
handful of white Republicans, who have
ever since the war been hoisted into office
on tie backs of colored men, ought to
kuow that they cannot snub the colored
leaders in that fashion with impunity.
We sincerely trust that these official
gentlemen will realize and appreciate the
fact that the colored men are more com
petent and are harder to satisfy to-day
than they were when these gentlemen
first assumed control of our rotes.
Never, indeed, has an unsuspecting and
credulous people been so badly swindled
as our colored fellow citizens by their so-
called saviours, hut in reality devourers,
the earpet-bag gentry who came in after
the warlike the locusts of Egypt and
made a clean sweep of the earnings and
substance of the “Nation’s wards.”
Those ingrates, too, who, though bom at
the South, were actuated by the most des
picable and mercenary motives alone in
their affiliation with negro Radicals, have
invariably sold them out and pocketed all
the offices and Federal pap that could be
gotten hold of. It is time, therefore, that
such parasites should be shaken off, and
we are glad that the Toumal of Pro
gress has undertaken the task. Nest to
seeing our colored people abandon their
Radical alignment with the North, and
strike hands with their only true friends,
the old inhabitants and owners of the soil,
we shall welcome their repudiation of the
white vipers whose only aim is self ag
grandizement. The Journal of Progress
is neatly gotten up, and promises to he
conservative and conciliatory in its
course.
Charleston and the West.
A New York telegram of the 2d instant
to (Tie Charleston 1Veres and Courier says
the connections between the South Caro
lina and Cincinnati Southern road will
certainly be built, and two of the large
holders of South Carolina railroad stock
would go to Charleston this week to get
information and make definite arrange
ments for this purpose. ,
