Significant Words From a Colored
Republican Source.
Tlie Journal oj Progress, a Republi
can print, edited by R. R. Wriglxt, an in
telligent person of color, in Cutlibert,
Georgia, lias this to say ol tbe few white
scalawags who arrogate to themselves all
of the emoluments and party patronage of
tbe Radicals of Georgia:
The colored people constitute the Re
publican party in the South, and the
handful of white Republicans, who have
ever since the war been hoisted into office
on tl e hacks of colored men, ought to
know that they cannot snub the colored
leaders in that fashion with impunity.
We sincerely trust that these official
gentlemen will realize and appreciate the
fact that the colored men are more com
petent and are harder to satisfy to-day
than they were when tliese gentlemen
first assumed control of our votes.
Never, indeed, has an unsuspecting and
credulous people been so badly swindled
as our colored fellow citizens by their so-
called saviours, but in reality devourers,
the carpet-bag gentry who came in after
the warlike the locusts of Egypt and
made a clean sweep of the earnings and
substauce of the “Nation’s wards.”
Those ingrates, too, who, though bom at
the South, were actuated by the most des
picable aud mercenary motives alone in
their affiliation with negro Radicals, have
invariably sold them out and pocketed all
the offices and Federal pap that could be
gotten hold of. It is time, therefore, that
such parasites should be sliaken ofT, and
we are glad that the Journal of Pro
gress has undertaken tlie task. Next to
seeing our colored people abandon their
Radical alignment with tlie North, and
strike hands with their only tme friends,
the old inhabitants aud owners of tlie soil,
we shall welcome tlieir repudiation of tlie
white vipers whose only aim is self ag
grandizement. Tlie Journal of Progress
is neatly gotten up, and promises to be
conservative and conciliatory in its
Course.
Charleston and the West.
A New York telegram of tlie 2d instant
to tlie Charleston News and Courier says
the connections between the South Caro
lina and Cincinnati Southern road will
certainly he built, and two of the largo
holders of South Carolina railroad stock
would go to Charleston this week to get
information and make definite arrange
incuts for this purpose.

Comliino the choicest cathartic principles
in medicine, in proportions accurately
ml justed to secure activity, certainty, and
uniformity of effect. They arc the result
of years of careful study and practical ex
periment, and are the most effectual rem
edy yet discovered lor diseases, caused l>y
derangement of the stomach, liver, and
bowels, which require prompt and effectu
al treatment. Avek’s Pills are specially
applicable to this class of diseases. They
act directly on tho digestive and assim
ilative processes, ami restore regular
healthy action. Their extensive use liy
physicians in their practice, and by ail
civilized nations, is one of tlie many
proofs of their value as a safe, sure, ana
perfectly reliable purgative medicine.
Being compounded of the concentrated
virtues of purely vegetable substances,
they are positively free from calomel, or
any* injurious properties, and can be ad-
]>■ mistered to children with perfect safety.
Aveu’s Pills are an effectual cure for
Constipation or Costiveness, Indiges
tion, Dyspepsia, Loss of Appetite,
Foul Stomach and Breath, Dizziness,
Headache, Loss of Memory, Numb
ness, Biliousness, Jaundice, Rheuma
tism, Eruptions and Skin Diseases,
Dropsy, Tumors, Worms, Neural
gia, Colic, Gripes, Diarrhoea, Dysen
tery, Gout, Piles, Disorders of the
Liver, and all other diseases resulting
from a disordered state of the digestive
apparatus. _ ?
^ As a Dinner Pill they have no equal.
While gentle in their action, these
Pills are tho most thorough aud search
ing cathartic that can bo employed, anu
never give pain unless the bowels are
inflamed, and then their Influence is heal-
ing. They stimulate the appetite and
digestive organs; they operate to purify
and enrich tho blood, and impart renewed
health and vigor to the whole system.
