Biuoraxiss and Indigestion.— 1 Theso two com-
pRints are more general at this season of tho year
than at almoat any other. They are closely skin;
for biliousness always involves an impaired diges
tion, and indigestion is nocossarily an accompani-
®*nt of a disordered or torpid liver. Happy the
®»a or woman who can boast of a stomach that
tu never felt the horrors of dyspepsia, and to
whom that great secretive agont, tho liver, has
cerar given pain or trouble. Not ono in a thousand
**» lay claim to entire immunity from irregularity
in tbsse organs. How, then, shall they he regu-
'*•*!? Not by powerful catkarthics, alternated
with ordinary stimulants, hnt by a medicinal invig-
like Uoatetter’s Stomach Bittors, which com
bine, in dno proportion, tho tonic and the alterative
fwindple. Wherever there is a church, a achoci-
bottes, and a general store, this famous medicine
aiy be procured. No village merchant rinds it
trodeet to be without it, for it is inquired for every
% by every class. Tho workingman buys it bo-
e **»e it increases his capacity for toil, and 1s fol
lowed by no reaction. The effect of the salnbri-
mots, herbs, etc., of which it is composed, dif-
f3 **d through his system by the pure stimulant
which forms tho basis of the Bitters, is most health
ful and invigorating. Tho scholar, the merchant.
**> in fact, all men whose minds or bodies, or
loth, are in constant exercise, will derive benefit
from its use. To persons of sedentary habits it
^PPliss, in some measure, that activity in the cir-

h tbs best known remedy for constipation.

CITY AFFAIRS.
THURSDAY MORNING. AUGUST 10, 1871.
Fine Rain.—The finest and most copious
shower of rain of tho season, fell in this city
and section yesterday afternoon between 2 and
3 o’clock. ^
Matob’s Cocbt.—From the batch of offend
ers before this Court yesterday $20 in cash was
collected, and imprisonments to the amonnt of
sixty days ordered.
A Fresh Supply.—Messrs. S. T. & B. P.
Walker have just received a fresh supply of
that delicions Caromel Cocoanut Candy; also
another fine lot of Augusta melons. It
L li. Habbts & Co. have removed from their
old stand, on the corner of Third and Cherry
streets, to tho store formerly occupied by G.
Nnssbanm, on Second street, opposite Riddle’s
Photographic Temple, where they hope to see
their old friends and customers.
None but pure medicines dispensed and by
experienced hands.
City Affairs.—The semi-annual report of
the City Treasurer appears in our issue to-day,
and will be followed to-morrow by a statement
from the Mayor, which was handed in too late
for this issue. The report will be found inter
esting, it being, we believe, the first itemized
report ever rendered by the City Trersnrer of
Macon. When the report of the Mayor appears
we will make such comment on our city affairs
as we think the subject demands.
Cutting Sobafes.—Cbarlos and Jack Harris,
negroes, got into a fight with another negro,
named Charlie Bland, on Tnesday night last, in
Sandy Bottom, and the latter was Berionsly ent
with knives. The Harrises were arrested and
lodged in jail to await the result of the wounds
inflicted npon Bland.
Yesterday morning another and similar affair
came off in East Macon, in which a negro, named
Ive [Bugg, fatall, it is thought, stabbed an
other negro. Ive got away.
The venerable Shropshire, of tho Macon Tel-
egbaph, says he can remember when he was a
“happy, careless boy.” Ho ought to be able
then to explain how Egyptian mummies are
made.—Rome Commercial.
We would cheerfully make the explanation for
your benefit, old fellow, but for tho fact that we
respect you too highly to expose the manes of
your dead forefathers to the vulgar gaze. Be
sides it would be giving support to the Darwin
ian theory—a subject we decline to discuss.
You must call on Barnum for information re
garding your ancestors.
A Festive Cuss.—One John Brown, nndor
the influence of pine-top, and with a desire,
perhaps, to establish the fact that his “soul is
still marching on,” drew his pistol yesterday
afternoon and commenced shooting it off in the
alloy betweon Second and Third streets, back
of Hardeman & Sparks’ warehouse. Of course
a policeman soon got after tho “festive enss,
who, seeing that bo was wanted, struck out on a
long trot up the alley. He was not fast enongb,
however, for DonLevy soon overhauled him and
took him to the headquarters of all such.
The White Cobneb.—Messrs. Seymour, Tins
ley & Oo. aro fixing up their old white corner in
such handsome style, that many of their coun
try friends will not know them, at the first
glance, when they come to town next faU to sell
their cotton and do a little trading. The front
is being run np eight or ten feet higher and a
neat comice pnt on, which will give the front
a stylish and handsome appearance. Tho rear
of the bnilding is also being ran back on Cherry
street, some 25 or 30 feet, to give them more
room for the storage of goods. The whole ex
terior will then bo tastefully finished off, and
tho “old white comer” will become a relict of
other days.
New Pavements. —Tho Street Commissioner
is hauling bricks to the front of Hardeman &
Spark's warehouse for tho purpose of laying a
pavement along there, and also in front of tho
warehouse of Jonathan Collins & Son. Tha
pavements will incommode the warehousemen
a little, as wagon3 will not, of course, bo al
lowed to drive npon them to throw ont cotton
into the warehouse doors, and the cotton will
have to be wheeled a little further. Citizens,
however, who pass that way frequently will bo
glad to walk on now brick pavements instead of
sloshing through mnd and water, as is often
the case in winter. Tho city, wo understand,
is doing tho job, and will collect tho bill, as
as tha ordinance provides, from tho owners of
tho property.
At a regular monthly meeting of Ocmolgeo

ed and ordered to bo spread upon tho minutes.

Good Meabuue and Running Over.—Dooley’s
Yeast Powder has already taken the precedent over
others, from its well known strength and purity;
but aside from these facta, it is put up in cans hold
ing the full weight aa represented, which is rarely
the case with those of ordinary manufacture.
Hence, Dooley’s Yeast Powder is tho beBt, purest,
strongest and cheapest ever offered to tho con
sumer, and evoryono who has used it will readily
testify to this assertion. For sale in quantities to
suit all by good grocers. aug5 lw
CHOLERA.
now TO CURE IT.
At tho commencement of the diarrhoo, which al
ways precedos an attack of tho’cholera, take a
toaspoonful of
THE PAIN KILLER
In sugar and water, (hot if convenient,) and then
bathe freely the stomach and bowels with the Pain
Killer clear. Should the diarrhoo or cramps con
tinue, repeat the dose every ten or fifteen minutes
until the patient is relieved. In extreme cases,
two or more teaspooufuls may be given at a dose.
The Pain Killer, as an internal remedy, has no
equal. In cases of cholera, summer complaints,
dyepopsia, dysentery, asthma, it cures in one night
by taking it internally, and bathing with it freely.
Its action is like magic, when externally applied to
old sores, burns, scalds, and sprains. For sick
headache and toothace, don’t fail to try it. In
short, it is a Pain Kit.t.eb.
Directions accompany each bottle.
The Pain Killer is sold by all dealers in medi
cines.
Price 25 cents, 50 cents and $1 per bottle.

THE WHS SHIP COTTON GIN.
Ahead of All Competition.
WARDED TWO FIRST PREMIUMS AT STATE
FAIRS IN 1870.
A T a test of nine of the leading Gins of this
country, exhibited at the Ootion States Me
chanic’ and Agricultural Fair Association, held in
Augusta, in 1370 the trial resulted as follows:
Pounds
cotton. Time.
Winn’s Gin 45 saws. 135 13:30 m
Carver Gin 50 saws. 150 12:20 m
Pratt Gin 45 saws. 135 12:00 m
Massey’s Griswold Gin.... 45 saws. 135 10:30 m
Nisbett A Goodrich Gin...45 eaws. 135 11:15m
Morris Gin 50 saws. 150 12:30 m
Guliett’s Steel Brush Gin. .60 saws. 180 10:05 m
The Winsliiii Gin, - 50 siiwh. 150 6:50 m
Hall's Gin and Feeder 50 saws. 160 8.40 m
The Gins were all run by a steam engine, and at
high speed. The Committee on Machinery had the
cotton weighed np for each Gin according to size,
all out of the same cotton, three pounds for each
saw. These Gins are all made alike, ror service and
durability—put up in good etyle in a substantial
and workmanlike manner.noderthe personal super
vision of Mr. JOHN W1N4HIP, a first-class ma
chinist or more than twenty years* practical experi
ence—giving his exclusive attention to the manu
facture and improvement of Cotton Gins. Those
wanting Gins can find tlieni with nnmbers of testi
monials as to fast work—picking seeds clean, and
leaving lint in good condition, making it sample
well. 40, 45, 60 and 60 saws kept constantly in
stock. Price. per siw.
