Fancy Moll was fined $25 and ordered to the

tem., yesterday. On hearing the decision of
the Coart, she became furious and full of fight,
and had to be overpowered by the physical
strength of several polioemen. She is one of
the infamous and impertinent wretches that
should be forced to leave the city.
Illness of Mayob Huff.—Our worthy and
spirited Mayor returned from Atlanta qnitenn-j

that ho was taken very sick, late in the after
noon, and has been confined to his bed since.

Mabch Weather in August.—What strange,
straDge weather, we are having in this month
of August. The wind did not blow so furiously
or in such fitful gusts yesterday, but it raised in
sufferable clouds of dust, indicating that old
Nick was abroad in the elements. If they are
the equinoxial gales they are just n month too
soon. We all heartily wish a rain would fall
and settle tho weather.

A Hoax.—Just before the Savannah train
started ont yesterday afternoon, it was reported
on Fourth street that a train of cars had ran off
tho Central Railway just beyond the river and
three or four men had been killed. We struck
a trot for the passenger depot, accompanied by
several friends, to go over on the ont-going
train, to get the particulars of the horrible af- I sola,
fair. On reaching the scene of the reported ac
cident we leaped from the train and inquired
after it from several workmen at that point.
The only response we got was a hearty guffaw,
as no accident had happened. We were utterly
disgusted, and returned breathing imprecations
loud and deep against the man who invented
the hoax.
Hidical Mistakes.—It took the faculty about a
thousand years to discover that the best way to cure
6bss«» was not to render the patient too weak to
contend with it Within tho last twenty years, how-
•Tsr, the whole system of medical practice has been
■banged for the better. In diseases or complaints
caused by excessive heat, for instance, the doctors
BO longer recommend the redaction of the invalid’s
strength by prostrating medicines. The vast suc
cess which has attended the uso of Hostetter’s
Stomach Bitters as a remedy for debility, has given
even the most prejudiced members of (be old school
«inaiglit into the only true and rational theory of
care. Cantliaridos, calomel, and overpowering
tows of opium, are now among tho obsolete nos
trums of another age. The lancet, once as much
*he legitimate weapon of the physician as the sword
is of the soldier, is seldom drawn from its case.
Die principle of life is no lODger drained from the
veins by the quart, and water gruel for the strength-
less invalid has ceased to be considered an appro
priate diet. Vigor is the motto of the rational mem
bers of the profession, and they understand, at
kst, the value of a sterling vegetable tonic. So,
also, with the people at large; and without consult
ing medical men at all, they have adopted the bit
ter* as a household remedy, thereby economising
beth cash and health.
Note the fact, that Hostetter’s Stomach Bitters is
•old in bottles only, never in bulk, and that the
abortions springing np in various parts of the coun
try. and sometimes offered as enberitutee for the
great national specific, are all utterly worthless.

southwest. The temperature has been highest

The Cholera.—In order to quiet the nerves
of a great many who are now dreading the ad
vent of cholera, we would state that it has never
yet been known to prevail in a country where
pine is the chief timber—and hence, Middle
Georgians need suffer no extra anxiety. And we
have a firm conviction that this invaluable tree
is a disinfectant in more ways than that—more
especially in keeping away chills, fevers and
malarious diseases generally to a more or less
extent. Now, some wheezy old doctor will
smile at this, but he can't prove ’taint so! The
doctors' idea that malaria is generated in
an area of low barometer, with threatening
weather, will prooably be developed over the
Lower Lakes. A rising of the barometer, with
easterly winds, will probably continue on the
Middle and Atlantic coasts. Cloudy and threat
ening weather will probably continue on
Wednesday in the Southern States, with increas
ing clondinesssouthward to Texas, and a severe
storm on the Georgia coast.

Texan was shot and killed by one McClosky, the
Texan being the aggressor. Since that time
McClosky had been appointed policeman, and
there had been a fend between the Texans,
which culminated in a general fight on Satur
day, in which McClosky and a Texan were
killed and two others mortally, and four
seriously wounded. There is little law in that
region and more trouble is anticipated. The
