This is an evil, and proves that the practico of med

At this period of the year, when the fall of tho leaf
indicates that decay has seized upon the vegetable
kingdom, many h arras sing diseases are prevalent
Chief among these aay be mentioned intermittent
fever and bilions remittent The exhalations ris
ing from decomposing vegetation, and the hoavy
dews and fogs, are very apt to generate these oom
plaints. The wisest policy is to protect the system by
» course of Hostetter'a Stomach Bitten at the oom
mencement of the fall. Much suffering may thereby
be avoided. But If tho disease has a'ready begun, its
periodical visitations may readily be checked and
broken np by this active, yet harmless, vegetable
tonic.
But be on your guard against the charlatans who
are attempting to palm off, under various names,
unwholesome compounds, which they pretend to
compare favorably witb the great national elixir,
which his long since swept more foimidable oppo

fully develop them, they have lost their fructi
fying properties and vital ! ty. It ia Mr. 8,’a in
tention to send these tails, with a statement of
hie observations or the crop in Southwestern
Georgia, to the Cotton Exohinge in New York,
and thence to Liverpool. In proportion to the
area of land in cotton which he saw daring the
trip, Mr. S. says he is rare that a poorer crop
was never raised in the State. The stand ia
short fnlly one-fourth of an average, and much
of what cotton that has matured, is being tot
by the almost eontinnone rains of the tot week,
which have beaten the open cotton to the ground,
filled it with dirt and trash, and kept the pick
ers out of the fields.
In corroboration of the foregoing we append
the following paragraph taken from the Albany
News, of yesterday
Bair ard Cbops —Since the storm of tot
week this section has hod rain enough for a ti
dal wave, and the whole face of the earth ia
flooded. Cotton ia, of course, suffering seriously.
It has had no sunshine assistance to reeover
from the effects of the cyclone, and the conse
quence ia the bolls are dying, and tho young
fruit cannot mature. We are assured that the
damage on the Jordan and Lockett places ia
maeh greater than was supposed last week, and
that the same may be said of all other places in
this and surround ing counties. It ia now evi
dent that Southwestern Georgia will gather the
shortcut crop of any previous year, and that we
are safe in announcing the crop a d’srvtrocv
failure.
