taTNaws Fnow Euaov*.—Dr. L. H- BradBeld,
the manufacturer of Bradlield'a Female Regulator,
in Atlanta, ia joat in reoaipt of a letter from Ger
many, of which tbo following ia a correct transla
tion—the original of which ia in Dr. Bradfield'a
poaaeeaion, and can be seen by any one who de-
eiree it. Verily, the medicine ie acquiring a repu
tation aa wide aa that of dvtlizaticn.

Mausttx. Disuses—Daring these months, fe-
ver-tnd-sgue, that scourge of our rich bottom
lands, issues forth. The immediate cause of this
malady ia probably the moist exhalations that arise
from decomposing vegetable substances. Bat there
are also eeeondary and predisposing causes. The
weather prevalent at this season, although not, in
deed, so intensely cold aa that of winter, ia more
chilling and more depressing. Tho effect of aneb
weather is to reduce the measure of vital force,
and thus to render the syttom more liable to suo-
cumb to disease. FnAsipj. disease ia Just now,
bke a bold enemy, advancing swiftly npon oor po
sition, and, like a skillful enemy, lie will not fell
to select tho weak points; lot na, with equal skill,
fortify tho we.k points—fortify them by the rue of
a stimulating and invigorating tonic such aa Dr.
Fiech'a Bitters. Tbo soundnses of this theory it
Strikingly illustrated by tba fact that it ia by no
means every inhabitant, even of the moat inaalo-
briooa districts, who yields to this foe. It con
quers some, hot not all The reason ia simple.
Some, their frames already fortified by nature's
own great tonic, nourishing food, are strong
enough to resist the surrounding poisonous influ
ence*, to which Others whom an insufficient diges
tive faculty has, in a great measure, cut off from
this source of strength, readily succumb. Now,
Dr. Fiacb’a Bitten strengthens digestion, and thus
enables tba only real panacea, food, to so invigor
ate ibe system that it can repel the attack of mala
rial diseases. Moreover, taken ae directed, tide
medicine ie an infallible core for fever-and-ague,
and for all formm of intermittent fever.
CITY AFFAIRS.
SATURDAY MORNING. BEPT. 30. 1871.
Macox Lively—Three hundred and ninety
bales of cotton were reoeived here yesterday—
tho largest number of the season. Trade ia
rapidly improving, and the merchants are be
ginning to look happy.
Axotheb Attxwfyat Suicide.—A man named
Jones, aa we heard it, attempted to shoot him
self yesterday over in East Maoon, but succeed
ed only in slightly wounding himself in the
side. Verily, there seems to be a mania for
salf-dcstruction in these parts.
Saloon at tixe Fain Gbocsds.—Tho party
who rented this establishment reoently at
$2,400, having refused to comply with the
terms nnder which it was knocked off to him,
it will be re-rented on Monday afternoon next,
to the highest bidder. See notice in oar ad
vertising columns.
Funs it vue.— Bo sure to attend Boson's auc
tion sale of furniture this morning. He has a
largo stock in store, either at private sale or un
der the hammer. In addition to fnrnitnre, he
has a little of nearly everything for sale, and on
yonr own terms.
Hike Onroonr, a colored attache of a barber
shop on Third street, got hold of a loaded gun
in the shop yesterday, and in carelessly hand
ling it, tho gnn was fired, the charge taking ef
fect in the ceiling overhead. It ia said the
darky was tho worst frightened erestnre im
aginable.
City Money.—A paragraph appeared in this
ojlnuin yesterday morning, in reference to the
ly money, and in the form of an editorial,
which the local and other editors of the Tble-
ouapu, aud nine-tenths of the cjmmnnity do
nut cudorso. It was written by an outsider and
sent to tbo printer without i.eing read, or wo
should bare suppressed it. The city money is
good, is received by everybody, and if any one
has ever offered it at 2) per cent discount, he
was greener Ihnn tho backs of tho bills.
Capital Dinneb.—In company with two
friends wo dropped into W. P. Carlos' restan
rut yesterday about 2 r. m. and called for din
ner. It was aprend before the party, and if there
ever was a feast gotten up “fit for the gods,’
Carlos Miceeeded in doing the Ihing on this
occasion. Oystera manipulated in fonr ways,
broiled chicken, nice birds, elegant beefstake,
bam, and a dozen other palatable dishes. Then
the wines, etc. Bat we can't do the subject jus
tice, and shall leave the job to oar friend Black,
of the Enfaula News.
TwxsTY-mrx Cents.—This amount will buy a
>Ule of Mr*. Whitcomb's Syntp, tho great aooth-
g remedy for all diseases incident to infanta and
lildren.
Old Tutxoa Have Famed Away.—This ia at
least tree of tho old method of treating tbo long
abused and much abased human body. It is no
longer considered wise to put a patient to the tor
ture in order to core him of a disease in which pain
la already undermining the energies of bis system.
True science ranges itself on tho aide of nature,
md endeavors to assist her in her fight against dis
ease. This is the province of Hostottor’s Stomsch
Ritters, the moat approved tonic ever advertised in
this country. It may be recommended aa a fall
medicine, par exeoUeoce; for it ia in tbo fall that
jMUoaanesa, dyspepsia and malar ions fevers are ea-
neoUUy prevalent. Tba f rum. exhausted by the
beats of summer, ie relaxed and feeble at its close,
and requires, we may aay dmatuh artificial assist-
anew. Afford it that assistance in occasional doses
of Hoatettor’s Stomach Bitter*, and the evils re
ferred to may be escaped. Throughout the far
West, and on tbs stosmiog Alluvial of the Southern
riven, all the varieties of periodical fever are prob
ably rife to-day. Had a course of Hos tetter'* Bit
ters been oommeooed by tho • offerers a month ago,
i. before tho unhealthy season sot in, seren-
eigut'is of them would, in all probability, be in
their usual health at the present time. So much
forwent of forecaste. So much for not keeping in
the boose, and using daily, the beat safeguard
against epidemic and endemic fever*.
Ad flocks of imposter* and imitators are trying
to fodow in the wake of tba great American remedy,
therefore, bo sure that the article yon buy ia genu
ine and verified by the proper trade marks. The
tine article can only be obtained in bottles. Be
ware of the spurious bitter* told by the gallon or
in keg.
McLean’s Horror it. and Blood Purifier is tho

Notice.—Tho card of Carre, Mignon A Ron-
art having appeared in yonr paper warning all
parties against the purchase or use of the iee
machines munnfactared by Messrs. Vans A Litt-
man as an infringement of their patent, I feel
authorized, aa agent, to sfato that they have a
patent brined by the Government May 2d, 1871,
and have no hesitation in recommending it to
the pnblio. The machine in this city will con
tinue in operation, and supply all demands for
ice at redneod rates. O. G. Mejimisoeb, Jr.

September 30, 1871.
Family Gbocebizs.—Mr. W. P. Carlos, Ells’
old stand on Mnlberry street, opposite tha
Lanier House, is in reoeipt of tbo largest and
freshest stock of family groceries now in the
city, to say nothing of his fresh fish, oysters,
shrimp*, rioe birds and other luxuries from tho
sea coast. Families, proprietors of hotels and
roetanranta, will find everything good for the
table at this house and in any quantity. Orders
from a distance for fresh oyster*, fish, groce
ries, etc., promptly filled, and, as during the
days of Ells, tho honso is still tho headquarters
for ioe, and everything else which constitnte*
good living in the eating or drinking line. Car
ton’ prices will oompare, to tho purchasers ad
vantage, with any home in Central Georgia.
The revival at the First Street Methodist
Church continues with greater interest than
ever. Dr. Hicka is said to be pronouncing from
its pulpit tho most learned, the most eloquent
and the most extraordinary sormons over heard
in the United States. It is said that his effort
on Wednesday night, upon “Sin and its Conse
quences," would have electrified any andienoe
that ever sat beneath Ibe sanctuary. Of course
every seat is filled and the aisles and windows
occupied, not only by the lover* of genuine pul
pit eleqenee, but by those who takes far deeper
interest than that in the enunciation of the
truth and the word. Daring this revival a large
number of persons have been united to tbo
church—among them some of our best citizens.
Kettbxzi>.—Hou. O. T. Ward, Ordinary of
this county, retained Thursday from a month's
visit to New York, Boston and other Eastern
cities. He returns in tho enjoyment of excel
lent health. While in Boston, he contracted
with a responsible and reliable house for a city
dock, for tho main tnrrot of tho new Court
house. The clock will be made and shipped by
the 1 st of December. He also purchased a hand
■omo dock for the Court-room, which will ar-
arrivo in a day or two.
While speaking of His Honor, we might again
mention the faot that on and after the 1st of
October tho dty and county hospital passes un
der his control, but it has all along received
his dose personal attention, and regularly onoe
a week he has paid the institution a visit to
that it was kept in order, and to hear any com
plaints, or appeals which its inmates might have
to make. Tho poor and destitute of the oounty
have a warm-hearted friend in the person of Or
dinary Ward, and when their appeals for assist
ance are genuine, and he is certain there ia no
imposition, be never turns a deaf ear to them,
or withholds whatever of aid it is in his power
to giant m
Disaster's Fibe in Talbottos.—Wo regret
to learn from Mr. J. B. Gorman, editor of the
Talbotton Standard, who is in the dty, that a
most disastrous fire broke out in his town on
Thursday morning last, which laid one entire
block in rnina before it was subdued. Tho con
flagration originated in a wooden building in
rear of O. D. Gorman's store. Tho following
parties were burned out: Fell A Martin, dealer
in hardware, tinware, and canned fruits; O. D.
Gorman, fancy and family grooer; Dr. H- N.
Wells, druggist; Dennis A Bro., dry goods,
“Standard” printing oflioe, by Mr. J. B. Gor-
msd; “American” printing cifiee, by J. L. Den
nis; Willis A Willis, law offioe. The loss is es
timated at about $40,000. There was Tery lit
tle insurance on tho property.
This is a most severe blow to tho merchants
and business men of Talbotton. They aud our
contemporaries of tho press have our most sin
cere sympathies. Mr. Gorman says he is going
to rebuild with bricks, immediately, and we
hope to see bis Standard soon again elevated
proudly and defiantly, and may no advene
winds ever again lower if in the dost or ashes.
Solo. — One of our warehousemen, and
prominent gentleman for gubernatorial honor*
in tho minds of many Georgian*, has a rickety
looking old boggy horse that sold out the sports
of this town liko a flash on Thursday afternoon.
It was stated by the owner that the horse w*s
a three minute fellow, and in leas than that
time be bad forty bets proffered that the ani
mal could not make a mile in 3:05, 3:10 or 3:15.
Of course the bets were all gobbled np—(we
gobbled a few ourself) and tho time fixed upon
for tbo trial was 5 o’clock r. v. A large crowd
went dawn to tho Trotting Park to see tho
horse go and nearly all of the Colonel's friends
went along to enjoy a laogh at his expense,
few sly onea who knew what the hone could do
were sliding around in the crowd wagering hats,
treats, eta, that the hone would beat three
minute*. Sneh misbehavior opened our eye*,
and we drew all the bet* we had gobbled up
before the “erector” started, knowing the rules
of th* turf—that no bet could be draws after
the start The animal wa* introduced on the
track under tho aoperior manipulation of Mr.
J. J. Clay, and he wa* called up for • start. He
got a good send off, and from tho start to tho
goal, he never skipped or broke, and came
borne like a flash—making the mile easily in
2:53. It is unneeeaaryto sty that the whole
crowd was badly “stock,” and the backers of
the horse were jubilant
