Fibzmas's Surrzu—(Midnight.) — Wo have
just gotten in trom the complimentary supper
given at tho Brown House to tho mombors of
the Firomon's Convention. Wo are too full for
utterance, and can only give * brief synopsis.
Tho repast was elegant—such ns they always
got up there. They generally do things np
Jl'Own. After tho supper was ended came the
wine, with tbe usual routine of toasts, as fol
lows: Isttosst—To our gnosis—the represent
ative firomen of Georgia. Reply by Colonel
John B. Weems. 2d. Atlanta Fire Depart
ment—Better firemen never served. Reply by
Henry Jackson, of Atlantn. 31. The Fire De

of Savannah. 5th. The light that beams from
bosutiful woman’s eyes—the only flame that
firemen can’t extinguish. Reply by R. W.
Stubbs. At this juncture our eyes became too
heavy, and we adjourned.
Oim Maexct Ritout.—Again we call tho at
tention of dealers in groceries and plantation
supplies at points below Macon, to onx prices
current They are ns nearly correct as we can
possibly get them, having spared no labor nor
core to ascertain tbe exact state and prioes of
the market We quote in every instance where
there rs « diflferenoe in prices at different bouses
both the inside and outride figures. But in no
instance have we given • quotation except upon
the sssuranoe of the dealer quoting, that he
would seU at the figures given us—of course
these figuresaresufcjecttothefluctuotiona of the
market though perhaps a rise in prices would
be felt at this point somewhat later than in the
Western markets.
Our merchants are prepared at all times to
fill any number of bills, and it is our candid
opinion that freights added, they can supply
all the articles quoted as cheap as any market
in the United States. Nor to oar market limit
ed to plantation supplies and groceries alone.
We have dealers in dry goods, boots and shoes,
clothing etc., etc., who are prepared to supply
the trade with goods of any kind, most of
whom advertiso through our columns.
Tevstxx Mxetko.—Tbo trustees of Mercer

brother of General Battle, of Alabama. He
was formerly s professor in tbe Alabama State
University, at Tuscaloosa. The resignations
of Dr. Brantley and CoL Steadman were ac
cepted, and their places filled with Virgil
Powers, Esq., of Macon, Rev. J. S Warren, of
Savannah, and Rev. Mr. Byala, of CartersviUe.
CoL Lawton, of Macon, was eleoted Secretary
vice Dr. S. Landrum resigned. An appro

a general committee of five, os follows : CoL
Lawton, Judge Jno. T. Clarke, B. F. Thorpe,
Bev. C. M. Irvin, and Mr. Cabbedge, was ap
pointed with a special ’committee of 3, Mressrs.
Weilingham, Obear and Maxwell, in Maoon, to
proceod at onoo with the work. The tuition
was reduced to ftiO per annum, snd the build
ing committe were instructed to make arrange
ments for tbe reduction of board in the College.
The prospects of the University are very flat
tering and we may expect, ere long, to see a
building completed that will be an ornament to
the city, and an institution of learning of which
our State may justly feel proud.

Maxoa's Com.—A mixed and motley crow
of African gentlemen of American descent, in
terspersed by a single specimen of white trash,
were in attendance upon Mayor Hoff's enter
tainment at the City Hall yesterday morning.
Tho first case disposed of was one continued
over since Monday against John Jordan (white)
and Jerry Reeve* (oolored) for disorderly con
duct, etc., on Saturday night. They paid five
dollars each, and were requested by His Honor
to keep quiet in the future. Mary Bowers works
out occasionally, and always likes to be prompt
to the minute in meeting her engagements.
Hsving no watch by whieb to “govern herself
accordingly,” she, by mistake, appropriated one
that belonged to a “country nigger.” Mary
said ah* didn’t, and a feller said she did. Tbe
Mayor, for the moment, dispensed with his gal
ton try, and actually believed the man rather
than the woman. Mary paid ten dollars, and
goes upon light diet for thirty days. Several
negroes were charged with vagrancy, but their
eases were dismissed. Gas Wsytnan wss re
manded for a warrant Thomas Uoolo was
charged with stealing and swindling—ease con
tinued. Ed. Cooper was aceased of keeping a
gambling house, but no positive proof oonld be
found to convict him. The Mayor warned him
that bis honae was under a bad reputation, and
if be wai brought before him again upon such
a charge bo would banish him beyond tho lim
its of the city. After which tbe Court moved
out and the firemen moved in.

Synopsis or Weather Statement.
Wab Dep’t, Office Cmxr Signal OmcEB,)
Washington, October!, 7:40p. M. f
The area of low barometer which was Tues
day afternoon some distance south of the Lou
isiana coast, has moved northeastwards to
wards Apslocheo Bay, a cyclone of small di
mensions. ltaia has ceased in Mississippi and
Louisiana, bnt bss continued with brisk south
west winds in Southern Florida, and to now ex
tended to South Carolina. An area of low ba
rometer bos advanced very rapidly southeast
ward into Minnesota and lows, and the wester
ly winds have backed to southwest in Iowa,
southwest in Wisoonsin, and northeast in north
ern Minnesota. The barometer bos risen slight
ly in the Middle States with increased temper
ature. Smoke and haze have prevailed daring
the day from the Middle and East Atlantic west
ward to Mississippi.
Probabilities: Tbs storm in tho eastern Gulf
will probsbly move northeast to the South At
lantic coast, bnt will somewhat diminish in
severity. Iho low barometer in tho northeast
will move eastward with brisk southerly winds
on Lake Michigan, snd easterly winds on Lsko
Satrerior, bnt the dry smoky atmosphere north
of tho Ohio Valley will probably prevent sny
heavyfrain.
Washington, October 4.—Tbe platform re
ported by tbo Committee on Resolutions nr-
tbe national administration aa false to its
and constitutional obligations in pro-
B _ 0 dissensions, refusing amnesty to sub-
mtoaivo citizens, squandering lands, etc., and
in taking strides fatal to Republican institu
tions. The Constitution recognizes the eman
cipation of the freedmen of the South, and
their enfranchisement and perfect equality be
fore tbe laws, aa an inevitable consequence of
the civil war, and hold it to bo the duty of all
to sustain them in the enjoyment of their es
tablished rights, and aid them in promoting
their welfare and the genera] welfare of tiro
country. They denounce the management of
affairs in New York, and will look wilh satis
faction on the punishment of all upon whom
guilt con be fixed.
The platform also calls upon the next Legis
lature to provide for further reform in the city
charter, which shall, among other things, se
cure early opportunity for the people of the
city to chooso new municipal officers. Liabilities
of Majors of New York, with all Mayors of cities,
to do removed by tho Governmcot in the same
manner as sheriffs are notv removed on proof
before him of malfeasanco or neglect of duty.
Au election in tho spring of tho year so os to
place in the lrsnds of the people power to make
a change in the city government.
The resolutions also say that while ready
and determined to purge tho local adminiatra-
tion of abuses, we must not lose sight of the
doty of oorreoting all prevailing corruption in
Federal Government. Congress and the Exec
utive demand some other law, to guard registry
tows, for prevailing fraaib, in elections. Praise
the Democratic State administration ; declare
that tho Government should levy no tax on im
ports, except for revenue purposes. Resolu
tions also heartily compliment Governor Hoff
man. After their adoption the Convention
adjourned till lo o’clock to-morrow.

It is lielieved that there will be no important
revolutionary movements following this result.
