LADIES Tiiz Philosophy or Tome SrocrLiirra.—Some substances have the power of influencing the changes which go forward in the hnman tissues, without themselves taking any integral part in these changes. 8alt, for instance, hastens transforma tion and waste, and conaeqently creates the neces sity for a more liberal diet; while, on the other hand, alcohol retards change and waste. On this principle, Dr. Fiscb, in hie Bitters, has furnished a preparation having among other properties that of preserving both the materials and the forces of the system: and in this, aa in other things, "A penny saved is a penny gained." But it is not only in this negative way that Dr. Fisch's remedy works for the bniidiog up of the physical man. While it holds back tho wasting processes, it tpora forward the repairing processes. It promotes the flow of the alimentative juices in the month, the stomach and the liver; and thus enables the system to utilize more food—to make more blood. The scriptural assertion that "tho blood thereof is the life there of,” is tho expression of a physiological fact: and the amount of food which a man can oat with relish, and digest, affords the exact measure and index of the man's strength. And when once Dr. Fiach'a remedy haa given the start to an improvement in this direction, tbo nnaided energies of nature take np the work and carry it forward, and thus render the amelioration permanent. Should not fail to examine onr new stock of The Wautiso uas been Heeded.—Since the ex posure of the attempts made by certain unscrupu lous local dealers, to palm off their coarse astrin gents, mado from cheap and impure materials, iu the place of the great national tonic, Hoetetter'a Stomach Bitters, public opinion haa set strongly against tlieee empirics and their preparations. Their occu pation is gono, or soon will be. When the light is let into deception it soon wilts down. Tenons who triflo with tlioir own health, by using unknown pre parations, willi no guarantee to sustain them, when an oatabl : sbo<l epociflc, proven by twenty years ex perience to ho exactly what it is claimed to be, ie within their reach, are euro to repent tbeir temerity. Many have done so in this instance, but it ia hoped that tho truth plainly spoken has arrested the evil. In the meantime the demand for tho leading pro tect ivo and reatorativo medicine of America was nover so great as it haa he on this season. From the fovor and ague districts or tbfi west, southwest, and south, it is literally overwhelming, and it mty bo said of tho advices from all parts of the country of tho euros it is effecting ierdyspepsia, bilious com plaints, and chronic constipation, that “tbeir name ia legion." Everywhere the sick and feefalo seem to havo realized the importance of “holding fast to that which is good,” and of avoiding what is spu rious and dangerous. BALL, BLACK A CO., Jewelers and Silversmiths. oetS-lf 5C5 and 567 Broadway, Now York. Just in at the NEW YORK STORE, Twenty pieces BLACK SILKS Central City Park. Accompanied by several of the editorial frater nity,we had the pleasure yesterday of visiting the grounds of the Georgia Agricultural State Fair which oommences on the 23d inst Mach has been said and written of tho beanty and natural ad vantages of the location, bnt we were utterly unprepared for the magical changes which a few brief weeks have created under the plastic influ ence of art, combined with unrivalled skill and untiring industry. MATOS butt. Honor to whom honor is duo is a maxim in Holy Writ, and sorely onr enterprising and in defatigable Mayor is entitled to the thanks of the city, and Agricultural Association, for the wonderful results which haye been achieved. Seven commodious and convenient halU for the exhibition of the varied products of tbe farm, loom, workshop and studio of the artist, have been erected, and, with the tasty President’s office, the editor’s cottage, tbe ladies’ dressing room, the extensive saloon, dining apartments, booths, stables, and grand stand for spectators, form quite an imposing and attractive village. Hundreds of artisans and mechanics, ate giving the finishing touches to the whole affair, and we may safely announce to the unbelieving croaker, that everything will be in readiness when the exhibition opens. BACK TRACK. Tbo trotting combo is perfectly free from pebbles, and almost a dead level, with just sufficient softness to prevent injury to the hoofs of tbe contesting animals. A finer, we do not believe, can be found on the face of the globe. And here (par parenthese), wo are forced to deprecate the opposition which a portion of the religions press has manifested to the Stato Fair on account of the regatta and races. Those are not gambling conoerns, but are intended in the one case to foster a manly and healthful pastime, which acts as a powerful auxiliary to our naval and mercantile marine, and in the other, to encourage the importation and breeding of blooded stock. Tho writer, by carefol personal observation, will testify that not only has no provision been mado for tho accommodation of the sporting ring proper, but belling, card-playing, ronletto and faro banks, and all other gaming parapher nalia will be rigidly oxcluded from tho grounds. There ia danger of erring on tho morality side in the present instance, and the reaction would be more hurtful than tho grievance complained of. We do not deaire, however, to bo under stood to bo the advocate of the turf. Far from lL Rut we submit that nothing of the kind is connected with the State Fair. If parlies ven ture their money, it must be mb rota, and pri vately. They conid do the same upon the Eng lish Derby, and throw the dice, or draw straws upon tho result of any election or event, tho re sult of which was problematical. The managers of tho Fair are not responsible for this. water arrakoements. A copious supply of this essential Said will be furnished in a multitude of places, through the agenoy of pumps of small bore made of cast iron, which are driven into the earth until a stream is reached, and the soluble overlying debris is then ejected, and pure water obtained in abundant supply. Over 100 of these pumps will bo sunk in all directions, affording an inex- baustilble quantity of water, clear as crystal, and pleasant to the taste. LIGHTS. The several halls will be brilliantly illumina ted at night by tbo popular aparatus of the American Gas Light Company, under the su perintendence of Mr. Edward Rowe, who will famish three hundred burners, generously do nating the gas that is used. Aurora Lodge, L O. G. T.—Tbe members of Aurora Lodge will meet this evening, at S o’clock, at the City Hall. Members of sister lodges are respectfully invited to bo present. Skating Risk.—Open this morning for ladies only; this afternoon for ladies and gents; to night for gents only. The rink will open regu larly now until the first of Novembor. Godet, for November, is on bond bright and early as usual, and may be found at Brown & Co.’s. It is a flash number and no mistake, and will be cqnally bought up by the ladies, who are just now deep in the delightful busi ness of making np thoir winter wardrobes. Geobgia Home Insubakce Compakt.—This company located at Colnmbns, in this State, must not be confounded with tbe “ Homo In surance Company, Columbus,” which was set down in onr telegrams yesterday aa having lost $ 150,000 by the Chicago fire. The losing com- pany is located at Colnmbns, Ohio. The Georgia Homo did not have a single risk in Chicago, and consequently did not lose a dollar there. A Serious Run Away.—Yesterday a dray, to which was attached a fine pair of black horses, the properly of Mr. J. A. Hill, took fright near the Macon and Western Railroad Freight Depot, ran awny, pitched tho drivor upon the Btreet, and at last collidod with a train of cars standing on tho track. Ono of tho horses was instantly killed, tho other rolled beneath tho cars, bnt singular to relate, escaped without a scratch. Tbe driver was nnhnrt. Mr. Hill, wo learn, valued the horse at $250. Music Foe the Fair.—Wo hear it vaguely rumored that the services of tho band of the Second United States Infantry, which is now stationed at Huntsville, Alabama, has been ten dered to the management of tho State Fair. If this is a fact, wo beg to congratulate them, as tho band haa the well deserved reputation of 1 >oing the best in the United States. The music that they will furnish will be alone worth the price of a season ticket, to listen to, and wonld readily command that amount, if thoy should happen to appear in concerts, etc., in any of our Northern cities. These will be in ample supply, and experi enced caterers will provide every delicaoy to tempt the appetites of the weary spectators, and minister to their wants. Tbe most costly wines and other beverages can also bo'served when called for. THE SIDE ATTRACTIONS will be numerous and multiform in character. Already a large collection of live serpents and animals, and staffed birds and beasts, are on exhibition upon tbo premises, and balloon as censions and other diversions will be of daily occurrence. The music stand will also be a place of universal resort, as arrangements have been perfected which will assure the presence of one of the most celebrated bands in the country. It is needless, however, to enter into any re cital of the numerous objects of interest, which will be exhibited to the crowds who will attend this great Industrial Exposition of the State Agricultural Association. The lovers of the fine arts, the agriculturist, horticulturist, ma chinist, mechanic, and tbe representatives of every other avocation will bo present. Ample means cf ingress and egress to the grounds have been provided by onr street rail road, and the numerous hacks and carriages which will be in attendance. Indeed, the pe destrian can reach tho spot'in ten or fifteen minntos from the very heart of tho city. Let ns all unite then in contributing by every possible means to tho completo success of this magnificent agricultural exposition, which will reflect honor alike upon our city and State. Maj. Jere Foss is the su pervising architect, and J. J. Cornell, the con tractor. Local Breveties.—We ore pleased to observe that tho Street Railroad Company, are extend ing thoir track np Fonrth street. The cars will be a great convenience to the housekeepers in the suburbs. Major S. Frank Warren, an old Maoonite, and now chief clerk of that high old place, the H. I. Kimball Honse, of Atlanta, was in Macon yesterday. Onr young and smiling lawyer friend, R. W. Stubbs, Esq., was the first of the learned gen tlemen of the Macon Bar to file a paper or pay a clerk's fee in onr new Court-house. Two more street cars are expected to arrive in a day or two, which wo think will abont fill tbe bill. A baby feU from a pair of steps, to a house on Fine street, yesterday, bnt by good fortune landed in a wash tnb full of dirty and wet cloth ing, and escaped unhurt. Report says that the mother went for the 15th amendment who pretended to take charge of it, in fine stylo. The splendid new chandelier, a perfect mass of crystal and gold, that has been placed in the hall of tho Brown Honse, excites the admiration of all who behold it. The physicians in charge of Mr. Plankett, who had so serious a fall from Floral Hall in the Fair Grounds, report his case as wearing a more favorable look than was at first considered pos sible. Business Brisk.—On every side wo see tho evidences of life and thrift in onr flourishing city. The staple is ooming in freely and wagons crowd the streets, each leaving its modicum of change to swell the aggregate of trade. The lengthened visages of onr merchants begin to relax as the dawn of a better day appears, end we trust the frugality and prudence manifested by onr planters during the current year in the regnlation of plantation expenses, will liberate a sufficiency even of the scanty incoming crop, to make commercial matters easy. We cannot too strongly enjoin npon CTery fanner to re deem his obligations to those who have as sisted him, though it should exhaust his last bale of cotton. In that event, he can rely npon continued help until his difficulties are sur mounted, and moreover, will enjoy a peaceful conscience and the respect of his fellow men. Tbe approaching Fair is already quickening the pulaea of the community, and will lend a pow erful impetus to the trado of the season. We say then to onr people, be of good cheer, and ply your trades and occupations with re newed industry and determination to succeed. Macon is growing daily in population and im portance, and your fortunes will keep pace with her prosperity. Macon, Ga., Ootober 12, 1871.
