lege in 18C8. and in 1870 graduated with such
honors aa had no Ter been attained in that insti
tution but by Aaron Burr, nearly a century ago.,
His grade was 99.9, and the examining professor
declared that the examination which he had
paaaed-almost challenged belief. Ha gained tho
Jay Cooke mathematical fellowship, that alone
being open to him. In September 1870, he went
to the University of Cambridge, England, and
Ins single jeer won every prixe end the only
acboUtsbip which was open to him. Young
Pryor tfudiod hard after his return from Eng
land, and it is thought that his too zealous ap-
plication to book* impaired bis reason, and that
id n fit of aberration he drowned himself. A
contusion was dlseorered on the body under the
left eye.

the rolling stock and other property cf that com
pany, thereby aeihm>ly interfering with the opera
tion of said road, which la now completed between
Brunswick and Albany, by the stoppage of Ue
trains;
Whereas, The aald Chief Engineer further reports
tbalba la unable to secure any action on the part of
the President and Directors of this company, look-
lng toward tha pa)ment of said claims, and thereby
remoTO the obstacles In the way of operating said
road; and,
Whereat, Blooa laid report this Department has
not httTi lUa to obtain satisfactory information or
aaauranco of the ability of aald Brunswick and Al
bany Bailroad company to pay Its Just debts duo to
laborers and contractors, and for material furn
ished In construction of aald road, and to pay the
interest on its bond*; and
Whereas, Under authority of law, the State bae
a prior lien upon all the properly of said Bruns
wick and Albany Bailroad Company:
Now, therefore, to the end that the laborers,
contractors, and tha State may be secured for all
Juat debts In this connection, I, Bufu B. Bullock,
Governor and Commander-in-chief of the Army
and Navy of this Bute, and of the Militia thereof,
do hereby lane this, my proelamatioo, and make
known that the State of Georgia has taken posses-
■ion of the aald Brunswick and Albany Bailroad
Company, with all of IU property, assets, fran
chise., and leasee, of whatever kind, character, or
deecriptloo, and baa placed tho ramo in chaigo of
OoL John Soravan, President of tho Atlantlo and
Gulf Bailroad Company, and do liareby give notice
and warning to all persons, that bonds of tho eald
Brunswick and Albany Bailroad Company indorsed
by Urn BUte; and bonds of the Slate exchanged for
the second mortgage bonds of said company, will
not be reeognixadu carrying with them any obli
gation upon the State for redemption, until all valid
claims for amount* due to laborers and contractors,
