Flight ol Bnllock! ffhil Hull
Tho stesltiily resignation and flight of ltofn»
B. Bullock, Uto Governor of Georgia, through
tho wicked mtaklnatloM of United SUtea radi
calism, if an oront that will cause no regret in
Georgia; but will, nevertheless, increase the
public nneaainewi and apprehension. First, it
amount! to n eonfeaslon of the enoi
fraud! and maladministration which haTe
charged to him, and leads to the belief that the
half has not yet been told or even euapected.
It is a virtual admission that Bullock's official
career has been marked not only by such vio
lations of pnblie duty as must infallibly bring
Impeachment and deposition; bnt is stained
with fraud* and feloniea which would forfeit
his personal liberty to the majesty of offended
publio jastlos, and oonsign him to the peniten
tiary.
Such apprehensions as these must have dic
tated his resignation and ignominious flight
from Georgia. This step was not only a vol
untary assumption of the worst consequences
of a constitutional impeachment, bnt it was
much more. It was, also, a voluntary inscrip
tion of his own name on the roll of infamy.
Notorious and universal as has been the eooun-
dreliam of the wretches elevated to the Execu
tive Chairs of the subjugated States by Federal
bayonets. Bollock was the first one to aooept
the role of the oonacioua felon and flee in ad
vance before the perils of a publio investiga
tion.
W* do not say be wseebief or greatest among
the official rogues imposed by Radicalism on
* the Southern people. Indeed bis flight shows
that h* bad not yet attained to that brazen
hardihood in villainy, which many of the others
display. He was not so ooruageons, obdurate,
Impudent and hardened a wrong doer as the

For running array is jost as good as be could
give. It is the same which has been presented,
with unvarying regularity, by every rascal un-
derthe United States government for all wrongs
committed during the war and for all rascality,
oppression, fraud and malfeasance coo
since the war. This time, however, there ie
alight variation in tbe matter of tense. It ie
not now what the rebels have drr.c, tJbt
he snapeeta they intend to do, in tho way of vio
lence, that justifies bis flight., *' '
He says he will not “ifirinJk" from s judicial
investigation of his course, bnt in tbs very sot
of saying it pnls himself beyond the jurisdic
tion of the Georgia court*. Fleeing, in
probability, full-handed with public plunder,
the man vannti his patriotism, loyalty afitf de
votion to tho cause of good government, and
bespatters with fool slander the victims of his
official treachery, the, people of Georgia, with
an apparent oonvietion that this loyal disguise
of rogues is thick as ever, and can never
worn threadbare. Ho will probably find him-
m Is taken. Even Northern Radicalism will
be scandalised by this most miserable and igno
minious spectacle. They are getting tired
the bold carpet-bagger who stands his ground
and steals in the fsce of Southern opposition
and in the broad light of day. They will hard
ly halloo for the runaway nigger system
public robbery.
“ Governor Conley.”
In his official proclamation Mr. Conley signs
himself •« Governor of Georgia.” There
nothing in tho facts ox in tho Constitution
justify his assumption of that title. The Con
stitution, in the article wc have quoted else
where, is very careful not to designate him
Governor. It only declares that upon the given
contingency, ho shall “exercise executive pow-
era"—that is to say, he shall be acting Gov-
ir. And tbit hat a meaning to it. Tbe
Constitution does not fill the Executive vacancy
with tho President of the Senate; bnt leaves
baa doos to tha others. Akermsn, (oold-blood
ad and snaky) has no donbt authorised the oar-
rent rumors that Bollock was to be thrown over
board and abandoned to bia fate.
In this dilemma with bia enormous malver
sations hanging over him, and the session of the
Conley's claim to be "Governor"it, therefore,
mere usurpation. At tbe most be ean only act

I am now fnlly persuaded and satisfied that
these men purpose to contro! the government
and reverse the political results of the past two
yean, by peaoefoi means if they can, or by foul
means it they dare. Failing in this, another
attempt at separation will be made.
If evidence ol this were wanting, we need
bnt point to tbe pnblie and private utterances
of those who were foremost in secession and re
bellion, and now denonnoe and ignore tbe fun
damental taw—the Constitution of tho United
States. Will the country heed.and take oare
before it is too late to prevent another war with
its frightful consequences ? If my actio j in
this emergenoy bad boen postponed until after
the meeting of tbe incoming body of legislators,
the Executive branch of our State government
would have been absorbed by the conspirators
in the legislative branch, and there would have
been no check upon the wholenide repeal and
destijetion of all the great mess r<n of reform
and progress that we havo labuiu.: so hard tr
ftfitfthliwh.
The free school system would be abolish
tbe colored citizen denied every right guaran
teed to him, sod tbe whole work of Interm.1
Improvement carried on by Northern capital
would bo swept away. The growing spirit of
lawlessness and proscription for opinion's sake
is daily rendering the property and lives
Union men and Republicans, more and more
nnsnfe, and I fear the worst conseqnences
the Executive offioe sbonld be tilled by one not
only in ajmpatby with those who urge on and
inflame this feeling, but who is moved and eo-
tnated by them. With no one in tbe Executive
office to cadi npon tbo genoral Government for
irotection, its friends and supporters would be
landed over, without mercy, to tbe assaults of
their friends.
For these reasons I have determined on the
step believing that mnch that has alrondy been
nccomplisbcd can be preserved through tha wise
and firm check npon revolutionary measures
that will be given by Gov. Conley, in control of
the Exeontive branch of tho Government, and
that thereby the good of tbe whole people of
Georgia will be promoted, and I shall cheerfully
give to Governor Conley all the informalionand
assistance within my power that he may desire.

The Jliifon Fair.
From tho Griffin Star.)
The fair business has been r.u b-r overdone
in Georgia this year, and we have published so
mnch fair intelligence, that we fear tho people
are getting surfeited with lb's class of news.
Bat we cannot forego tbe pleasure of express
ing onr great satisfaction at the success of oor
State Fair jnst terminated. We have visited
many fairs North and South, but can truthfully
say that this wai far superior to any we have
ever witnessed. To begin with: The fair
gronnds at Macon are vastly superior to any
thing of tbo kind we know of. They are
perfectly level and covered with a majestic
growth of oak and pino forest, furnishing at
once a glorious shade, and ail the bounties of
tbe richest Southern landscape. The Ocmnlgee
river forms a natnral boundary for near one-
half this magnificat park, the banks of whieh
are high and beautifully terraced, and artesian
wells and fountains give tbe greatest abundance
of pure water all over the grounds. The
buildings are far superior in rrchiteeture and
oonvemenoe to any heretofore bnilt in the
South for similar proposes. The race track,
foil mile in circuit, is one of tbe best on the
continent, with the amplest accommodations
for spectators. In fact, sll tbo arrangements
for exhibitors and guests were the most sump
tuous. These gronnds furnish a mngjifii ?nt
park for tbe aooommodation of tbo Macouites
for many years to come.
The exhibition of live stock was good ; that
of bone stock splendid. Tbe mechanical de
partments were fall and very interesting. The
fliral and art departments veiy beantifcl;
while the various amusements and entertain
ments prepared for the pleasure of visitors re
flect the highest honor npon the management.
The polioe arrangements were likewise admi
rable, and tbe mat of order prevailed eveiy-
here. The press gave a very proper token of
their appreciation of Mayor Hull's administra
tive abilities in a gift ef a fine service of sil
ver plate.
In a financial point of view, the fair was
"kewite a snceess far beyond the anticipation
of the most ssngnine. There was over fifty
tbonssnd visitors, and the gross receipts mast
have amounted to nearly if not quite $30,000,
tbps showing what energy, activity, enterprise
end the free rse of printer's ink will do.
Trken all in *•', the late State Fair reflects
great credit npon the city of Macon and the
State of Georgia.

Tbe question ri to whether cr not the Ordi

the District Court being subirUtad to ns, it was
resolved rouwimonsly, that tt 3 Ordinal v do not
levy such tax, aid that be resist itv collection
by all legal means in his power. Toe names of
the pn. .lea acting as Judge and Attorney of said
District Corot in this district never haviug been
submitted to the Senate for confirmation, we
think they are acting wlthont proper authority.
Onr people have ever been opposed to this
court—deeming the eorrts r \ oreanized before
this one esme into existence sufficient to meet
all the demands of justioe.
There never has been a session cf the conrt
held in this county, and we consider it a great
injustice and gross imposition to be taxed for
the propose of paying for servioes that have
never been rendered. Let those counties that
have been benefit!ed by said court (if there be
snob) be taxed for its support. We .'rant onr
member in tbe House of Representatives will
use his vote snd influence to do awsy with said
conrt. We find the roads generally in good
oondition. Believing that the removal of the
capitol from UilledgeviUe to Atlanta has re
sulted in much pecnnicry loss to the State, and
subjected onr legislator* to many demoralizing
influences, we thick the good of the State

The emolnmenta of the Tax Collector's and
Sheriff’s offiees being very small in this county,
we reeommend that the two offioes in this coun

offioe*. We also recommend that the Ordinary
paas an order for the snm cf one hundred dol

matters for the year 1871, to be allowed ovor

His Honor, Judge Robinson, has onr thanks
