The veteran oyer there is Col. Holer..of toe
Oolmut.na Sr.n. He is engaged in fighting the
New Departure verbally, and ia profoundly 1m-
pwed?rith toe idea that his paper the AlUr.U
San and the Morning News aro the only dai^y

oyer hem ia Mr. Daniel E. Gsyit, of the Now
York Erprese. He is an energeUo worker and
a ooid talker, and will lake the occasion, if an
opportunity offers, of telling yon that the present
fairiatoe moat suooessf nl in every reap** of any
ho ever saw. !He has attended cihibiUonii this
year from Maine to Louisiana, and he ought to
{now. He will tell yon that the generality
of Fair buildings are mere shads compared
tn these and ho is. therefore, a Hoff man from
too ground up. The neat looking individual
there in toe portioo. who bis the appearance of
fed ciSnit rider, is Mr. W. A Hemphill,
one of the proprietors of the Atlanta Constitu
tion. He is ono of toe pleasantest and most
agreeable members of tbo profession. The good-
looking young man who has jnst dropped in is
Major Anderaon W. Reese, of too Tzuwiurn.
If he gets bold of your band he will make yon

combined with toe cordiality of a Goorgian. He
hasn't been on the grounds to any great extent,
bat ho claims “the largest aggregate circula

little daughter, Flewelyn. If you could see toe
little charmer for yonnelf, yon wonld agree
with Homo. The pions-k oking party aeated a"
the desk by the window is the qneereat com
pound of good humor, (rient and thoso genial
qualities of bead and heart that attract people
that yon ever saw. He is not ranch inn Bac

with the Good Templars, and taken to wri
ting poetry. These are healthy signs, and
hie friends are hopeful. The gentleman
who has jnst come in is Sim Atkinson, of too
Athens Banner. One of his virtues is that he
never smoke*. This ia a highly flattering rec
ord. The tali man whom Interviewing the agent
of a sewing machine Jnst yonder, ia John B.
Gorman, of the Talholton Standard. He ia fall
of life and energy, and ia now admonishing the
sewing machine man in thrilling tones to adver
tise in the Standard. The fiory looking young
fellow there is Major Charlie McGregor, of toe
Warrenton Clipper. He impresses yon as being
foil of dash and spirit. He is a man that yon
know wonld do to tie to. The portly gentleman
hero ia Colonel Cary W. Styles, of toe Albany
New*. Ho has • martial air about him, and ia
a very fluent speaker. He ia a candidate for
Clerk of toe neat llonse of Representatives, and
wonld mako a good one. There ia Waterman,
who keeps np a running fire of saroasm at every,
body, and Goorgo Woods, who appears to be
digesting everything be hears, and Basoom My-
rick, who is jnst sprouting a mattache, DoVotie,
Grady, Call and others. If yon desire to see
those whom I have not mentioned, or if yon de
sire to become better acquainted with those
whom I have mentioned, you havo only to take

and pretty soon yon will be face to face with

These Freeses, from actual use, have given as mnch satisfaction as any over introduced, and on ap
plication I can famish a circular with several hundred names of planters who are using this Press, asl
am willing to abide by their verdict as to its merits. A new itnproveman this been introduced into these
Presses which enables the packer to pack cotton in toe box with more facility than any arrangement
heretofore in nse, and adm% of a longer cotton box. These Presses, it is believed, can be fomiehedat
a less price than any other.
