SEATON A CO., Proprietors. aeplSeodAwlf Louisville. Ky. AnnzsT Drear —When a plant oratree begins to decay it must needs die. It cannot be revitalized. But It is not bo with human beings. A human rain can be repaired, strengthened, restored, though a brown leaf or a withered blade of grass can never be made green again. In the autumn of life, or even in Us wintor, when nature seems to be giving way under the pressure of yean, it ia still possible to retard the progress of decay, and to lend to age more than its wonted vigor. .Aa a means of pro moting this object, Hoetetter's Stomach Bitters is unquestionably the most potent of all restorative*. It will not nuke the old young, but it will prevent, lessen, or sooth tbo infirmities which aro the usual accompaniments of the decline of life. For debit- ty end a lack of nervous power, from whatever cause arising, it is the medicine that of all others hsfore the world, beet deserves the nsme of e spe cific. In purity, in iuvigorating properties, in its adaptation to weak stomachs and feeble organiza tions, it has no competitor among the tonics of tho pharmacopoeia, nor among proprietory remedies. Beside* it strengthening principle, itpoaeeaaee alter ative and regulating properties of the highest order, and aa anti billous medicine is far preferallc to any of the preparations containing mercury. Time baa shown that for physical decay, nervous debility, dyspepsia, hill jus disorders, and intermittent fever, Hoatetter'a Bitters ia a remedy without a rival. This preparation ought always to bo taken along with food. Bo taken, it* uee is never followed by reaction. On the contrary, the invigorating influence which it exerts over the norvotu system, is decidedly boneflcial. In dyspep sia, it ia chiefly upon the sympathetic nerves that tbs stimulating qualities of the bitters are brought to bear, (those nervea regulate tho functions of the digeativo system ) The flew of the gas trio juice, and of the other alimentativo fluids is thus in creased ; and in like proportion is increased the amount of blood which ia thrown into the general circulation. In this manner, dyepepsia is perma nently remedied, and the system at largo is invigora ted and built up—the bitten accomplishing this sim ply by enabling the organism to extract oat of food the nouishmsnt that food contains I This subject continu'd next week under “The Butcher the best Doctor.” BEAD THIS. Prof. 8ILLIH&N, State Chemist of Conn., says: I hsvo carefully examinod the sample of “ Con-1 tnry White Whoat Whisky.” In color, taeto and odor this liquor ia without fault. It is entirely free from any deleterious substance whatever; the ab sence of all trace of lead, and of other poisonous or hurtful things in it is absolute. By distillation, I find its alcoholic strength to bo exactly that of proof spirits by tho present United States Law, viz: 50 parts by volnme (measure) of absolute al cohol, 83.71 parts of water; by weight this corre sponds to alcohol 42% per cent., and water 57% percent. The ash is chiefly alkaline carbonate, and is far less in quantity than is found in tho av erage of good drinking water. No alcoholio liquor can be purer than the sample of your “Century.” [Signed] B. SILL1MAN, State Ohemist. Prof. C. U. SHEPARD, Jr., State Chemist of South | Carolina, Bays. I havo carefully investigated thesamploof “Con-1 tury” Whisky sent by you for Inspection, and pro nounce it to be free from adulteration, and as such I can recommend its use to the public. I have ex-1 amined it for copper, lead, the alkaloids, and other I misonous substances, but am happy to say I have I ’ound none of them. The inspected Whieky con- I tains 51 per cent, by volnme, or 43.50 per cent, by | weight, of aloohol; 0.06 per cent, of ash. To the I taste it is mid, mellow and high flavored. [Signed] O. U. C., says: I havo analyzed tho specimens of the “Centnry” Whisky sent to me with request to that effect. 11 find no Fnsel Oil and no trace of any deleterious mineral or metallic snbetance. The liquor presents no feature which does not belong to the best I Whiskies, while it offers some unusual paints of I excellence;. Its color is dark, owing to tho presence of Caramel, which undoubtedly improves its tone; I the taste is smooth and the bead good. The re-1 markable strength of this Whisky, coupled with the unmistakable marks of a^e which are to be per ceived, its freedom from harmful principles too of ten found in such liquors, and its natural bouquet, justify mein pronouncing it both for medicinal and I domestic purposes a superior article.
